Picks yet again (Fatter ultex?)

I like the Dunlop ultex picks. They don't necessarily sound the best to me, but they LAST. I love the Stubby Triangle 3mm picks for feel and sound, but I shred them all over my guitar and they don't last long enough (I can destroy 9 corners in a set, and it leaves a hell of a mess on my guitar!).

But I can only find up to 1.14mm Ultex picks, and they're a bit too flexible.

So I'm specifically looking for either a thicker ultex pick (triangles only), or an alternative which is hard wearing (I like pick attack btw).

Ideas?

Large pointed, 2.75mm they have them on strings direct, it's not as big as a tri stubby. If you wanted something as big as a tri stubby you'd need to buy a freakishly large pointed directly from them

Dave! When did you start using V-picks? I still can't believe you can play with a shredder pick, I've got better with it but still don't like it. Meaning to get the Tortex Sharp and Jazz III clones they started doing.

I got my first V-pick about 6 months ago?  Bought a couple at a guitar show and liked them.

I've got some Jazz III Ultex's left that I gig with to use them up, and have about half a dozen V-picks knocking about that I'll replace when needed.  I like 'em!

I've been using Blue Chip picks. $35 USD per, but they do not wear whatsoever, the tone and attack is great and they have this weird gliding quality to them when strumming or sweeping. http://shop.bluechippick.net/ They are marketed towards American Blue Grass players as a tortoise shell replacement. I don't really dig Blue Grass, but those guys can outpick many metallers for sure.

Ahh so you can get V-picks in the UK then, didn't really fancy ordering them from over the pond. How do they last in comparison with ultex? I find the majority of picks get shredded really quickly!

They last well matey, plus you can use all three corners  ;)

I have the same problem. I burn through picks like mad, on account of having a bit of a jackhammer picking hand. Ultex jazz IIIs are the best for me. I've tried all sorts, but either the pick attack is unacceptable or I burn through them.

Some of the more recent trials:

Ibanez sandgrips - great sound, love the feel and the shape and size. 1 hour till the points too far gone.
Pickboy carbon nylon. Same story, but 30 minutes till they're out.
Max grips - great wear resistance, really stiff, dont like the sound
Sam/philosfulls mother of pearl picks - great sound, moderate wear resistance, not paying 12 quid for 10-15 hours playing.
Black Ice - low wear resistance and cr@p attack

There have been a few others, but I forget now. I didnt like the V-Picks because the edge is really clumsy nad blunt and pick attack is cr@p as a result.

MDV: Which V-Picks you tried and what did you think to the shredder pick I lent you at the meet? I much prefer the 1.5mm to the 2.75mm, still no flex but more articulation, not as much as my Tortex Sharp 1.5mm (current favourite). Hence I wanna try the new V-Pick clone of it so I have articulation that lasts :D

Thanks for the feedback guys, will have to try a few out. It may be that I just have to stick with the ultex triangles for now. I just wish they made them 1.5mm or fatter (preferably 3mm like the stubby triangles I love so much!).  Tortex is no good, I get through one of those in a rehearsal.

I have a very thick Planet Waves lying around here. They feel a lot like the Tortex, maybe they have thicker ones.

They can be very thick but still get shredded very quickly though, that's the trick! Finding a pick that's both thick enough and hard wearing enough!
