Abraxas for my Suhr Modern?
« on: January 09, 2011, 02:52:27 AM »
Hi guys,

I have a Suhr Modern (mahogany body + maple cap and mahogany neck + pau ferro fretboard)
It is currently installed with a pair of Suhr Aldrich pick ups that I am not fond of. They have a harsh high end, focused mids and feel really stiff for lead. something closer to my les paul r7 with burst buckers. with some weight to the higher frets.

I am looking for a more vintage tone out of the Suhr, something like, Gary moore, thick, fat, organic and smooth lead tone, together with a nice clean sound.

Alternatively, would the Blackdog be suitable?
 :)

Thanks.

well for vintage Gary Moore the PG Blues might be the way to go, as he famously owned the guitar that they were based on.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.

Abraxas would be a great choice for what you've described. The Black Dogs are meaty, but have quite an aggressive midrange that might not be entirely what you're after.

Lezard: If we were talking about a Les Paul then maybe, but in a superstrat design the OP is going to need a fatter and more powerful pickup to get the sound he's after.

Abraxas yes, but maybe Mules too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I'd have thought Abraxas or Mules. Both are very versatile, organic and thick with loads of beautiful tone.
