Books Question
« on: December 30, 2005, 05:48:58 PM »
OK,
everyone here is sooooooooo helpful wanna ask another ?

As stated, am about to take lessons (will see how that goes). And I used to play bass.

Anyway, fortunate enough to have fair bit of time on my hands and wanted to ask if y'all have any recommendations on guitar books.

I have some chord books (Santa brought em lol) but to be honest they bore the living poop outa me.
Best book have bought is "The Heavy Guitar Bible" by Richard Daniels. Have already learnt ALOT from it and am getting much more relaxed with the fretboard. I am not looking for tab books or chord books etc. just maybe theory type stuff like the one i mentioned. Am also gonna get (long as evilbay don't fool me lol) "The Guitar Handbook" by Alistair Crawford, "The Complete Guitarist" by Richard Chapman and "The Art of Playing Rock Guitar" by Richard Daniels.
Any others any of you found very useful/interesting?

Cheers,
Nick

Hello from another bassist who has gone over to 6 strings ( at least all the while I am in the band I am currently in). David Mead has some good books- I can't give you names but they cover a wide spectrum and explain theory in easy to understand ways. I know you like heavy stuff but I would suggest that you perhaps look at another style of music that may not be your choice but which you could use to go to places you might not go. For example, I am no lover of country music but I bought a country book and worked my way through it and I think I benefited from it.

OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Not ####!!RY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
As a Brit living Way Down Sowf in Good Ole Texas, am NOT a country convert!!!!!!!!! LOL
Know what you mean though.
Basically good reviews on the Guitar Bible brought me to it and it is VERY interesting/useful. Generally I have found (through flipping through some other books) they put it into too many tab songs and talk about "twiddly" bits. I was/am looking for GOOD grounding books that I can take from and learn from. In my understanding "rock" is pretty new and came from elsewhere anyway LOL so say a Blues or Contemporary book is not a problem at all. Learning should never stop and should never be closed minded, IMHO. Just with so MANY books out there was looking for some suggestions from those that have "been there and done that" and have some recommendations :)

Cheers,
Nick

Subscribe to Guitar Techniques. There's no better magazine for guitarists to learn from, although Total Guitar isn't too far behind.
