I guess I should just get the Warpig for my SG
« on: January 13, 2011, 01:18:26 PM »
Everyone tells me to go for the Warpig, but I'm always scared that it's gonna be too hot, and too bassy. I play Gibson SG Standards into Bogner Shivas through Orange cabs. I also have a Matamp GT1 being shipped to me right now. I play heavy rock with touches of stoner, doom and grunge. I enjoy the sounds of Sabbath, Clutch, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Monster Magnet and DOWN. For classic reference I like the thickness of a Super Distortion and the vocal mids of a JB. I keep going back to the stock 498T pickup, but I wish the bottom was a little bit tighter, the low-mids were thicker, and there was more clarity. I've also tried the Godwood which has a great feel to it and it's nice and fat, but I need a little bit more power behind it. So I'm looking for something with a tight bottom, thick low mids, vocal high mids, clarity, good sustain, fat for leads, and cleans ups somewhat well with the volume rolled back. From the forum I've gathered that I need something with either vintage output, or super high output because of the SG body. I've thought about the Pig90, but my band is pretty loud, and I'm worried it'll be too noisy since it's not hum-cancelling. So....A5 Warpig? or something else? Thanks.

A5 warpig, through and through.

Stop procrastinating. It's the perfect match for what you've described.

Thanks guys.
I was just concerned that the low end might get too congested, cuz my amps are kinda dark to begin with.
Most of our riffs are mid-tempo or slow...but there are some fast parts too, so it needs to handle that kinda picking somewhat. Ok, I'm gonna do it.

I would try a WarPig most definitely if I were you, but it's a possibility that a ceramic would give you a slight bit more cut and tighter bass. Might compliment your Bogner Shiva better.

Ok, I finally did it.
Just ordered an Alnico V Warpig from Axe Palace.
I got it in Raw Nickel w/ Nickel bolts for my Faded Brown SG from Axe Palace.
I'll let you guys know how I like it in a couple weeks when it shows up!

Hey,

I have an sg with a warpig in it for several years now.  It still brings a grin to my face when cranked.  Perfect for ur music reference..
I put a queen in the neck since I like that nice FAT sound it gives me.  Just more variety i guess.  It pretty quiet compared to other p90's.

Hey Buddy,

Nice to see some regulars still the board.

I've been busy, and hadn't the time to post in a while.  Long story short, quit my project management job to drive a bus for the MTA.  Thought a pension and stuff would be grand, but the whole driving a bus with the general public in your face all the time was something I should have not taken lightly.
So basically, quit and went back to college.  I will have an associates in electrical engineering this may and might go on for a bachelors.  Also trying to make a baby so we will see how that pans out.

Sorry for the hijacked thread djpatb!!   WARPIG

Hi Chris, good to see you back man.

djpatb
You will love the Warpig for what you do.  I have one matched with an MQ in the neck in an Explorer.  The MQ & Warpig together cover all the stuff you are listing.  Fit a series/parallel switch for the MQ.  The parallel sounds are great when you want a bit less bass.
So many pickups, so little time

Hey Phil,
How's the museum of guitars..

It's grown since you were last here!  I got a few more amps too.  More guitars with BK's fitted.
So many pickups, so little time
