ESP 2011
« on: January 14, 2011, 01:02:58 AM »
Since Tony hasn't said anything about this, and I definitely want to, here we go for the compulsory see-what-we-like-and-don't-like-from-new-year-model-releases part of the year.

First off, so far, no abalone! The current models all look sweet! I must say I don't like Hetfield's guitar, nor Kirk's. Or the Slayer one.. But let's keep our heads high!

I LOVE the Kamikaze guitar, and having seen this (and that Star one, mind you) I am DEFINITELY getting one and pimping the hell out of it! I love it!

Hell yeahs! The EC-1000s are not sprawled with abalone anymore! And they have binding on the back, so its looks gorgeous, like a LP Custom but with Deluxe qualities, or at least, imo. Yum!

Seven string. Seven string. Seven string. OMFG. I am getting that as well. My wallet was disappearing as I was looking more at it. I swear.. this is like, the most awesome year ever.

Tony likes the V, but I might get it, just to spite him. Best friends do that to each other :P And Telecasters! Alongside those Stratocasters!

Thank you ESP. You've made me feel as happy as Eamonn Holmes in a cake shop.

:D

I like the Kamikaze guitar also, but the only thing keeping me from it is the floyd. Which, for me, is more hassle than it is worth, seeing as I never use it.
Also, the Hetfield model is one of the uglier takes on an explorer that I have seen.
All I want to be is normally insane.

Yeah, I have to second that on the ESP Explorer looking thing. I really hate the curves in it and the points just rub me the wrong way entirely. I do like their V's though. Not that Michael Paget one though. Gross. Who in their right mind would want a permanent sticker of a fleeting pop-metal act on a nice axe? I really dig the headstock on those seven stringers. Always liked that one.

May I say: I have not the first $%&#ing clue how you can make judgements on the purchasability of a guitar based on on-paper spec and CGI images.

The LTD Kamikaze has a VERY poor graphic in real life; nothing approaching the quality of an ESP. The guitar plays pretty well, tho. I owned 3 Kamis at one point!

Sorry MDV, can't I say that from being so excited?

OK, fine. ESP has released guitars. Next thread.

What's the big problem.. Did you get outta bed on the wrong side or what?  :?

Apples and Oranges I know... but it could be argued that is more information than you'd get before placing a custom order.

Trust in reputation seems to be enough on those occasions.

@MDV: Well, the H-1007 is basically going to be a Schecter ATX with a neck-thru and a nicer finish; and owning a blackjack myself I can say that it'll be a good mid-level 7 string. The EMGs are unfortunate though as they're not really my thing. All the 1000 series LTDs play great for the price (at least in the US). I find the 400 series hit-and-miss and anything less not worth the gamble.

Woods and build quality are so very variable, surely I'm not the only person that takes on paper specs as an guide to whether I might like the guitar or not, and then actually judges only the guitar in his hands when you get to play one? CGI/heavily photoshopped images are not a promising indicator either, its visual prevarication. If they really looked great, they wouldnt have to PS the pics!

So ner :p

(relax, be excited, just for the love of god play one of the bloody things before you buy one (and if at all possible buy the very one you played))

i get excited by looking at new models too. i don't agree guitars are just there to be played, its nice to build them, modify them and obsess about them too.

the kamakazi is my favourite of the ones you've posted

I'm just saying LTD and Schecter are the same thing. LTD H is Schecter C. Many of guitars are already on the market, just under a different brand name with different finish options and wood. Also, in my experience all ESP/LTDs look better in person than they do in the website pictures (or whatever they are). I'm not saying I wouldn't try one before buying, but I'm pretty confident that anything from the 1000 series would play well, as every one I've ever played has been more or less up to par with ESP standard series.

Maybe they haven't built them yet. Honestly, "new for this year" models by ESP in the past often meant you were able to get the first one after April of that year.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
