LXD in Bristol, 31st of this month.

Anyone going to the League of Extraordinary Djentlemen show in Bristol this month? Periphery, Tesseract and Monuments, it's going to be a hell of a show!

Tesseract are actually my new fave band, can't wait for their first debut album in March, it's going to be the best release of 2011 I reckon. Those lads are going FAAAAR!  :D

I saw Tesseract a few years ago with their original singer. They were fantastic. Very tight and just 'on it'.

I caught Textures too, another awesome band.

Yeah Textures are brilliant!  I really liked Tesseract's former vocalist, Abi. He had a great voice, and it's kind of a shame he couldn't commit to the band enough to go as full-on as they are now. having said that, the new singer, Dan, is equally brilliant and I'm glad they managed to pretty much replace like for like. It's about time metal had some truly great singers up and coming in the new bands. All I seem to see these days are a bunch of angry man screaming, rasping and rumbling through the songs, and whilst I do like a good, harsh vocal (I even do it in my band) it has become really stale and somewhat actually quite annoying. Especially in the tech / math / progressive metal scene. It's nice that Tesseract have not only broken the mould but are actually leading the way for clean vocals again.

Well, I was there, it went off! What an AMAZING night! If anyone else out there is seeing this tour in a town near to them, get ready for a fricking good night. Seriously, there was so much jizz-worthy gear on that stage! I counted two of Misha's latest custom guitars, an Engl Powerball, a Daemoness Cimmerian, quite a lot of nice Ibanez's, a Steve Carpenter 8 string LTD and 3....count them.,..THREE Fractal Audio AxeFX units. And those were only the ones I could see from my position, I wouldn't have been surprised if there were more knocking around!

Tesseract were, as expected, mind-blowing. Seriously, they were absolutely spot-on the entire set, Dan's vocals were amazingly perfect, Jay's drumming was the stuff of legend, and all three stringsmen just owned the crowd.

Periphery...well where do I start? The album does not do their vocalist's voice justice. He is amazing. I wasn't keen on him before, as I thought his sound on the album was thin, over-produced and a bit too strained. Live? Feck...he ripped up my initial thoughts and scattered them to the unforgiving wind. He was perfect all the way through, his cleans were amazing and powerful, his growls and screams were too. I was truly taken aback, and I just had to smile the whole way through their set...kind of like Misha, hah! I bet Misha "Bulb" Mansoor just does not know how to be unhappy, the guy is made of rays of sunshine! He emanates cheerfulness and friendliness, and I managed to get a photo with him after the gig. Now onto his tone....OMFG. The guy writes AxeFX patches like Mozart wrote piano concertos. He came on stage for the first song with the Daemoness guitar and struck a few notes to get his sound in (so we all heard it untainted by other noise) and bloody hell, what meat! What flavour! It was pure audible sex and I'd be lying if I said that sound didn't turn me on just a little bit. I may have pissed myself it was that good, but I just wouldn't have cared.

What a mindblowing night...   :O

I also met Nolly and Dylan (the man behind Daemoness Guitars). Somehow managed to lose Nolly, turned around and he was gone, but hello anyway dude, heh! Dylan's a lovely chap and I will DEFO be ordering a custom from him when I can save the money. Seeing it in action got my juices well and truly flowing and he can get hold of Korina easily too, which is half the battle over already, hah!

A mate has just sent from the Brum show that "Periphery are amazing and boring at the same time". Which I wasn't completely surprised at, I have to say, I don't imagine it being a riveting set.

Ended up at this last night, I kinda concur with my mate, everyone could play great and did what they did very well, but didn't excite me. Just not my cuppa tea, really.

Didn't realise Nolly was on the road with them, so nice to meet and get a blether to him, too. And from the quick play about I had with his two Daemonesses, they're some cracking guitars, too!

Aye Nolly is replacing one of Periphery's axemen for part of the tour because the dude dislocated a finger...OUCH!

Good luck Nolly! Lots of learning new material to do eh?   :D

I managed to fracture and dislocate the little finger on my strumming hand on tour.
I then played 2 days of tour with a fractured 5th metacarpal and dislocated little finger (unknown to me). Ignored the pain for 2 weeks after tour. went back to work and all that... Eventually a friend talked me into going to hospital where I found out I had turned the knuckle into a weird mushroom shape and took .5mm off it by crushing it into my hand.

Ive also smashed my thumb up on the strumming hand to the point where I could barely hold a plectrum. I went to the docs and explained I had a gig in hamburg I had to fly to and they just prescribed me various types of painkillers with instructions to take them 10mins before needing to play.

In retrospect... probably best to look after your body. especially your hands if the only thing you really enjoy is touring and playing guitar.

No it was related to some scum bag blowing up our bass cab and the promoter also being a scum bag.

The thumb smashing was due to being in the 12Bar and getting too excited when presented with a life of agony riff. My thumb hit a girder and it wasn't pretty.
I've almost broken my own forearm by being a bit too excited at a gig. I should probably drink more milk... or just go to different gigs.

No idea at all, lol! All I can imagine is backstage / after gig tomfoolery. Spirits were exceedingly high from both fans and bands alike after the gig on Monday, and I know how men can get in such states, having done a catalogue of really very silly and definitely dangerous things in my time under the influence of such euphoria, heh.

If you're going to feel like that when you go see them, mate, prepare your mind to get royally $%&#ed, heh.

Dmoney, you sound like you've been in the wars dude! How? Just....HOW? Lol! Take more care of your fingers dude, they're your bread and butter!  :D

Well, I don't drink. So my 'excuse' is just pure idiocy mixed with getting caught up in the moment.
I've seen other people end up in worse states.
When spirits are really high or really low... those are the times when things go wrong!
