Just a quick test with Daves (spitfire) Starfield Valve Pre that im borrowing for a while and may well be purchasing

Signal chain was

VPA-1 > Marshall TSL FX return > Eminence Man O War > SM57 > Toneport GX > Reaper

EDIT: Oh yeah I have been asked by others that i've shown this to whether its a low gain preamp and its not by any means i just recorded this with low gain settings as i was going for the feel of the Original By King Diamond

very nice, its a little bit of a shame that the preamp is now sat next to me waiting for its new owner to collect it..

we will have to do some recordings with my starfield head soon.
