Here is one hot off the presses, Floyd Rose has added a version of his double locking tremolo that is made to easily fit on a Les Paul. No drilling required.

Foyd Rose did a bridge like this some years ago, although it looked a bit different.  i actually have one sitting somewhere!  i'll see if i can find it.  i agree, it's a good idea, which is why i bought mine.  really must actaully install it sometime...

That rings a bell.  If I'm remembering right, does it have a row of about 10 really skinny little springs on the back?

You still need to drill the headstock to clamp the strings.  It's not a 'no changes to the guitar' fix.

Would teaming it up with locking tuners cure that problem?

I think it would, would at least make it as stable as a PRS trem.

Really want one of these, and a les paul to put it on!

I'm not into LPs (except Juniors) or trems, especially Floyds.... but for some reason the Les Paul Axcess quite appeals to me.  I'm not saying I want to actually buy one or anything, but it's a rare case where Gibson have done something a bit different and not ruined it by adding Mickey Mouse inlays or a built-in digital tuner with multi-coloured LEDs....

And a thinner body, and a belly cut.... I think the neck is fairly thin, unfortunately, but that's personal preference.  They didn't actually get anything wrong for once.

its one of their ofset carves on the neck i think.  its a hell of a lot of features they should put in a standard LP without a floyd.

they do the Axcess with a tunomatic as well.  the floyd rose version really appeals to me, the custom shop price doesn't!  like Wez says, it's what the Les Paul standard should be now.  call it the "Les Paul Modern" alongside the historically correct "traditional" model.

of course, they are all features available on a certain guitar named after a big African cat
