'63 Veneer Board set
« on: January 24, 2011, 05:56:59 PM »
I finally got my Strat(60's-style) back from the shop that installed it for me. It arrived last week but they were so backlogged so I had to wait for quite a long time to get it done.

Anyways, first off, I really like it. It replaced my Apache set which are very good in their own right but I'm just looking for something with more bass and depth. And the '63 have them in spades without losing the definition that I got accustomed to with the 3 years that the Apache has been with me. I, for the record, don't really know what piano-like attack feels until hours ago. It's like I changed to a higher gauge of strings(from .010 to .011 to be specific) without having the side effects of increased tension. The overall sound is thicker and fatter but the string separation and definition is very much intact. No wet blanket over the amp effect here.

The biggest surprise for me is the middle pickup. To me, it sounds like the in-between position of a really good tele. Compared to the Apache's mid pickup, it's darker but I like it as it seems to have more fullness/roundness into it.

So Tim, if you are reading this, thanks for your recommendation and also of course to the guys(Nolly, AndyR, southpaw, and whiteram) who've chimed in on the thread I made last month when I was still inquiring about it. Your inputs have been very valuable in making a big decision. I'm a very happy boy!

I wanna make a Warmoth strat. The bridge is gonna be a Miracale Man, the Middle will be a Trilogy Suite and the neck a '63 Veneer with an EMG afterburner.

Depth is the magic word of tone for me. ;)

Nice one - glad it worked out :D

Of course now I'm wondering what these pickups could do for me! (and the 59s, and, and...)
