NAD!!
« on: January 29, 2011, 04:28:17 PM »
I Just got back from picking up my new Randall RM50HB mts head.

I got a cracking deal on ebay for it only £300! with a tweed and recto modules! they are worth that on their own.

The annoying thing is that I dont have a Cab were I am staying in stafford at the minute so I cant get it cranked but it did sound awesome for the brief session I tested it out this morning.

I only have one very bad camera phone pic so apologies for that.

The plan is to get a 2x12 and put some 6v6's in the power section and have that in stafford and keep my powerball rig at my place in corby.

Now to stop myself from going mad trying to find some used modules!

300 for a modular? That is brilliant! Bring on the many stacks of modules that will sit next to it!

when i opened the thread at the start I thought you'd got the cheaper 50 watt randall tube amp (rh50, maybe?), which'd be a pretty decent deal even for that one, but that's killer for the modular ones. really liked the one i tried.

A steal? I've never tried one of these so I have no idea what the modular approach is like.
There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.

I still can't believe that nobody else bid on it!

A steal? I've never tried one of these so I have no idea what the modular approach is like.

Basically you have a module which is effectively a preamp in itself and you slot it into the head which is effectively a poweramp to create a full amp. and you can swap and change the modules depending what sound you want to you could have a marshall-esque module and a mesa-esque module in the same amp and be able to switch between both type of gain sounds. The beauty is that its all valve and so it sounds and feels like you are playing that type of amp.

Now I have see if feline or Antag have any modules they want to sell.....

If I came across a deal like that, I'd snatch it up too! There's a ton of information out there on modding those modules as well. Can see that being easy and fun, since you don't have to disassemble a whole lot. I tried one and I like the Ultra and the XTC modules a bunch. Nice amp score!

Very nice - happy NAD.

I love the clean sound from the Tweed module.  The Recto is a pretty good module too, though I don't think it really sounds like a rectifier.  I have a Salvation Deadplate which is much closer & a Jaded Faith-modded Recto which sounds huge.  Stock modules turn up quite often for a good price & Anthony at Salvation Mods does absolutely great work in converting them to something useful :)

Yeah I really like the look of the salvation lone clean, Benzin and mash-all mods. I really want to get my hands on an xtc module too.

Let me know if you ever want to sell any.

Argh too much gas and no cash!

Someone please buy my Framus 4x12!   :P

The Benzin is a nice module but my favourite is the Custom3 - it sounds absolutely fantastic with 7 strings :)

None to sell right now, but that may change when I end up with a dozen modules & only a 4-slot RM4 to put them in :)

Really wish they'd bring out a 1U rack taking one or two modules. Feline gets great tones from his MTS rig.

How much do salvation charge for modding? As they are in the EU we dont have to worry about import duties either do we?

There was a video on youtube (I think it was from summer NAMM 2010) were they had a two module preamp-like thing that you could stick in your effects loop which looked pretty cool but has seemed to have vanished off the radar as has new modules from randall.

Salvation mods are typically $200 to $230 depending on options (though I think the 6-pot Krankenstein mod is more like $260 because it's quite bit change to make).

No, we don't have to pay import tax :)

Turnaround was 6 weeks on the last two I sent him...
