Reamping Guitars
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:32:54 PM »
Hey guys

A little article I just wrote on reamping and a new business I am starting. For those of you who are interested I will be doing some free work on tracks for a limited period to get the word out there. Any comments are welcome and I hope this is helpful

Reamping guitars is a very common recording method in the music Industry worldwide. It consists in sending the guitar's direct signal (or Bass) without any processing through a DI box to your hard dive which we will re-send through through a special device that levels impedance to a guitar head amplifier or preamp to re-record it.
A common question is if this will this affect the quality of the guitar sound?
The answer is No.
If you think about it, the signal that is sent from the guitar's pickup goes directly into the guitar amplifier,
so instead of sending that signal, you send it to a Hard Drive. That track is then forwarded to a Guitar Amp which is exactly the same as having a guitar player in front of an amp, but instead of him playing, we are pressing play on a pre recorded performance.

So what are the benefits of Reamping?

First of all it's a sort of insurance to your guitar sound, if for any reason your track does not sound professional or was not well recorded, our engineers can take the direct signal and pass it thru the best equipment available on the market, that includes top class A/D/A converters, high quality microphones, professional preamps and a wide range of tube Heads and Preamps (or even solid state for clean guitars) getting the best match for your band's or song's style
All you have to worry about is getting your performance right as we will take care of the sound for you

A second major benefit is pricing, at a fraction of a price that you would spend in the studio you will be able to obtain a world class guitar sound which you will be able to remix in your song or use as a backing track

What do I need ?

If you are recording in a studio all you need to do is ask your engineer to record the direct signal while recording your regular performance. If your engineer doesn't know how to do this I wouldn't recommend recording with him in the first place!

To record from home you will need a fully functional guitar (hopefully In tune!), a DI Box of any brand and a audio interface (any will do ). You will have to plugging the guitar into the Di Box and then send the clean signal to your audio interface and proceed to record it into your DAW of choice. After exporting the track into a wav file you will be able to upload it while choosing between different Tube Heads and Microphone configurations which you will be able to hear on the website as samples for various styles. After that we will re-amp your track and post it back to you on a wav file as well as each individual take from different microphones and Wala!

How much would this cost ?

This is the best part, it would roughly cost around £20.00 per track This includes 2 mono guitars (left and right) and Lead Solo as well as clean guitars Getting the same sound at a professional studio with the same eyou 5 times more and you would probably not have enough time to record everything you wanted. With this method you record confortably from your home

I will also bee reamping keyboards and Pianos, this options will only require your midi interpretation.

All the best
