Pickups for Fender Strat Deluxe 98' H-S-H
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:14:18 PM »
Hi there people!!! I recently bought from a friend of mine a Fender Deluxe Strat made in 98 with H-S-H configuration. The 5way-switch splits the humbuckers in positions 2and4. For the time beeing in the bridge is a Sd JB and in the neck an Sd 59 (Both are full sized humbuckers) I find this combination boring and very predictable. I want something to transform this strat into a fire breathing machine. Think of a George Lynch on steroids with full gain kinda of tone for the bridge pickup and an articulate neck pickup ideal for soloing and be able to compliment with the bridge!!!
Any suggestions???

Fire breathing monster in the bridge? I'd say you're looking for an Alnico Warpig. The huge bass and mids should compliment the naturally bright Strat perfectly. I wouldn't associate George Lynch immediately with it but I still think it would be a good choice to look at. It will also split really well and using a push/pull to move it between series and parrallel is also a very effective option.

For the neck pickup I'd use a Holy Diver. Again there's lots of mids and it has the sweetest lead tone you could imagine. It's warm, fluid and articulate with a great lead tone that works either with gain or clean.

If you want to go the whole hog and get a middle pickup as well, look at a Trilogy Suite so you have some of that single coil goodness to blend with your monster humbuckers. I reckon you'll find it an awesome guitar with that setup.

Ok, just a shot: C-Pig - Sinner - Pig90 (neck). The HB-sized P90 has a lot of character, a lot of power. will do great leads, but with the clarity of a P90. The Pig90 is really great for heavy tones as you can hear in the clips. I think this combi makes your guitar a tonemonser.

Dont get me wrong but i never liked P90s. Dont know why but they dont fit me!!! How about a c-bomb for bridge and a cold sweat for the neck???

I'd go A-Bomb instead of C-Bomb simply because the C-Bomb is a brighter pickup in what will already be quite a bright guitar. The extra mids in the A-bomb I would expect to work better and the A-Bomb is already a very aggressive sounding pickup. If you want to go ceramic, I'd say a ceramic Warpig would be a better bet than a C-Bomb if you want 'fire breathing monster'.

That's an option too. (Btw, listen some clips of the Pig90/Stockholm HB-size and ask Nolly for advice. This pu is a real monster.)
