But the government is heading us into another recession, they still get 'shocked' when they realise no ones buying anything because they've raised taxes, cut thousands upon thousands of jobs and no ones getting a pay raise to meet the rise in living. What planet do politicians live on I wonder.

I have a mate who is a nurse. He was telling me about a lot of stuff and I was totally unaware of the impact of the NHS "reform".

Every time i get the jubilee line past Westminster I wonder which of the guys are suits are the scumbags.
I'm fed up of this country. Dunno where I'd rather live. Lets make Liverpool a separate state. Sort of like Christiania in Denmark. Liverpool isn't really in the UK anyway.

My wife works for the local council, and she'll most likely be made redundant in a month or so - they're having to make massive savings because of cuts, and "non essential" services are all going.

Unfortunately, the definition of "non essential" is vague, and means different things to different people.  Net result - a whole generation of kids leaving school with no guidance, advice or assistance in moving into the adult world.  And it's easy to think that's no big deal, but I used to work in that industry and it's amazing the difference you can make youngsters.  Without that help you're gonna have a lot of disaffected kids doing nothing with their lives.

I know it's hard to try to equate "social" work with the NHS...  Care providers in the NHS make an acute difference to peoples lives every second of every day.  But where do you draw the line in cutting services?

It's very sad, it was very predictable, and for the first time in my life I'm seriously considering moving my family to another part of the world.

Yo. you post on a messageboard anonymously. I have no idea who you are, where you work, or what you do at least. what is stopping you telling us, really? Do you think the feds will be keeping a close on the BKP forum for traitors to the Tory rulers? So you signed some bit of paper that is essentially a gagging order. meh. If people actually understood the impact of all these cuts as a whole maybe people would be angry enough to take some action... EGYPT THE REMIX!

It's information that probably deserves to be in the public domain if it is as bad as you say it is. If I knew whatever it is I'd tell everyone. Regardless of what I'd signed. But lets wait til it gets out. It's not like anyone is going to force a change of policy. That would take too much effort. Welcome to the illusion of democracy. I'm moving to Iran.

I hate this new government, I work in higher education and for months it has only been about changes, cuts and bullying, albeit labelled "efficiency", "new priorities" and other terms to calm people down. But other than the staff, there will be many more people who won't be able to study (or very reluctant) with the new fees rise, which is grossly unfair.

In addition to this, my wife is not an EU citizen and the way the Border Agency/Home Office treats those people is ridiculous. It is easy for me to compare as my dad is also not an EU citizen, but lives in Germany. I'm just glad we're married now, otherwise I would be very worried about changes to come in the following weeks.

I've been doing some sums recently and I'm about to buggered from every angle there is.  Based on income alone, I'm going to have about £1,500 a year less (after tax) and that includes the 2.4% raise I've just secured.  That doesn't include the raise in VAT, that fact that my expenses are about 10% short of what the fuel actually costs me and the fact that my student loan payments are likely to increase.

We've been looking at putting the baby in the nursary and the wife going back to work, which I've always been trying to stop happeneing.  It's a good job that nursaries are so bloody expensive we can't afford it.  She'd end up working for the equivalent of about £5 a day all things considered.

It's hard for everyone.  I was speaking to my brother the other day (A&E Nurse who's wife is going to have twins in the next few weeks) and he's going to be propper fooked.  What shocked me though was that although I get paid twice what he does, I come out with less than £200 a month more.  If you take the tax credits and cr@p into consideration, we're about even.

And to finish my rant, I pay £200 student loan every month and once I've finished I'll be about 38.  If I put the same amount away every month after I've finished paying it.  I'll nearly be able to afford my sons fees if he decides to go the uni.  If we have another kid though, they'll have to do something else.

Wish the wife would have agreed to move to New Zealand a few years ago   :(

with inflation running at 6+%(not the lies reported in the cpi & rpi) anyone not in debt is being shafted.
young people aren't going to be able to buy somewhere to live because of a failed economic model based on credit expansion ad infinitum.
our leaders are mearly stooges for powerful corporate & banking interests so don't expect anything from them.
don't listen to main stream media, they tell half truths & outright lies because they're 'owned', surprise surprise,
by the corporate/banking industry.
if it weren't for guitaring i could get quite depressed!

Me and the Fiance won't be able to afford a deposit on a £90,000 1 bedroom flat with things being as they are. God knows how I'll be able to afford it in the future when I'm living in a rented place.

If things stay as they are, in 10 years (maybe less) things will go right up sh*t creek and things will coming crumbling down. Economic growth will only matter to those with money and the whole 'social mobility' thing will set everything back years.

I can only hope that I find a way of getting out of this country.

it was 125 last year when i was looking.

aren't the number of cases when banks turn down requests for mortgages increasing too? or am i wrong?

Stevepage - Not that my advice is worth anything (see signature), but this is just the start of things to come.  I know the rental market has gone wild the last couple of years, but the price of houses has got a long way to come down yet.  I also have it on fairly good authority that interest rates are expected to go through the roof.  Some people (like this particular bank chairman) think that there's going to be a step increase up to about 7%.  I would be very dubious about increasing levels of debt at a time like this.

As gordiji said, young people can't buy anything at the minute so it's going to be interesting when the market realises that they can't afford to rent anything either.
