Hobbies:
Cycling, which includes lots of dicking about online buying retro bits and so on. Doing L'Eroica this year, so better start training. I also make 8bit music, which combined with a job, guitaring, and hanging out takes up all of my time.

Philly Q:
Am sorry to hear about your diabetes, its certainly worrying, but seems to be a relatively understood condition these days. I sympathise though, its not nice to have alot of favourites cut out and losing your freedoms.

Meditation:
I've often considered trying it out, but I honestly have no time. I thought it might affect my guitar playing in a positive way (a la Uli Jon Roth), however I quite like living impulsively currently.

Martial arts:
Not keen

Weight lifting:
No

Weight loss:
I'm suddenly putting on weight over the last year. I wonder if it relates to my cycle training, I certainly eat alot more as a result. Am also drinking very heavily these last months. I may need to look at this at some point.

There seems to be a slight trend here, and i'm included: cycling, losing weight (6lbs so far this year! eating much healthier-- not that I was Ronald McDonald before, just having proper portioned meals now, and visiting the swimming pool/gym), no martial arts here, but trying to re-learn German, and also attempting to learn Polish. Messing around with electronics too, but my current freelance job satisfies that, although i'm growing increasingly tired of the work itself (building valve audio equipment for a small company).

There is indeed a weight loss theme and I too have lost a few lbs but that is not due to exercise unfortunately.

When not indulging in rock and roll I like to pass the time with sex and drugs.

Speaking of cycling, just signed myself up for the CRC Marshbrook (in Shropshire) 50km mountain bike marathon - anyone else fancy doing it? There are shorter routes as well but I thought I'd push myself and go for the longer one :)

It's a non-competitive event and apparently a really laid back friendly atmosphere. It's on the 3rd July.

I missed out last year as I injured my shoulder on the big tabletop jump at the Forest of Dean, so hoping it won't happen again!

Sorry to hear about your health news Philly & Steve.

Other hobbies. I took up roller skating again. I used to do it all the time in my teens to a reasonable level. I got a pair of quad skates from a shop near me. It's something that I can do with my girlfriend and her daughter. I've got right into it so I bought a pair of inlines on eBay. I've tried them out in the park and it's great fun. I'm thinking of getting a longboard as well (a big skateboard). I bought a mountain bike late last year but I've only been out on it once. I swim a bit and went tonight. It was the first time in ages and I'm unfit again. I put on weight over Christmas so I've got to lose it.
I like home recording when time permits. I haven't done any for a while. Time. I don't get too much.
I like reading and film too.

I appologise for not commenting on this properly the first time through, as I did not know if you wanted to retain a degree of privacy over the issue . Thankfully , Johnny Mac's post 'nudged' me to log in and openly express concern. I wish you the very best , in dealing with whatever it is you are facing.

Rather than taking the piss like I have been during this thread, my hobbies at the minute are:

Going to work
Getting home from work and playing with the nipper until he goes to bed
Picking up the other laptop and working on my business plan

This takes up all my life at the minute and is pretty much what I do every weekday.  At the weekend, I do the same without the day job.  Think I need to take some more time off as I can feel myself slowly buring out.  Still it's a means to an end, hopefully in the next 7 years or so I can retire.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

No need to apologize but thanks for your kind words. Thanks too Johnny. I have been laid low by a virus of some description that has affected various organs. Doesn't seem to be much they can do and they think that time will heal and I think they are right as I am starting to feel better and I am now out and about a bit more. Another blood test in a few weeks will hopefully show that I am recovering. Once I feel strong again I shall start going swimming.

Roll on a few months and it will be sleeping, changing nappies, sterilising bottles, changing nappies, sleeping, changing nappies, sterilising bottles...... You get the picture!
I think I hate being indecisive.

I'm a dork so I like to look at the stars and have a good bit invested my telescopes and eyepieces. Right now my best is a big ass Zhumell with a 10" aperture, it's about 4 feet long. I can see color and detail in Saturn when it's out. :D

What other hobbies do you guys like to indulge in when guitars and music get you feeling too single-minded?

I recently watched Wonders of the Solar System with Prof Brian Cox. Awesome bluray (or itunes) from the bbc. missed it when on tv. Hes doing wonders of the universe in march. Its perked my interest in this sort of thing. Id like to get a telescope but think being in a city/cost would make it a waste of time.
