Twinfan finally gets a new car! Woohoo!
« on: February 07, 2011, 09:42:53 PM »
After the guitar sales to fund my new car got diverted into our fantastic Christmas holiday last year, my trusty old V6 MG ZS 180 went and started playing up as soon as 2011 arrived.  Typical   3 new tyres, one new alloy wheel(!) and a crunching gearbox in the first two weeks of January meant it was time to bite the bullet and find something else.

I was hoping to keep it running for another 6 months or so, but decided the current "no VAT" new car deals were too good to pass up.  Completely by chance (some may call it fate???) the exact colour and spec model I was after was one of only 3 pre-built cars ready to go for the UK market.  I couldn't resist a 3 week rather than 3 month(!) wait, so Mrs Twinfan agreed to bail me out if I needed a few quid in the short term.  The Christmas holiday obviously worked as nice sweetener  ;)

I picked it up on Saturday, and currently sat on my drive is a 60 plate 2.0ltr TFSI petrol manual Skoda Octavia vRS in Race Blue with parking sensors and a maxidot trip computer.  I'm chuffed to bits  :D  I can even get all my gig gear in the cavernous boot!

Here's some pics of the same model I've got that I nicked off the web.  They're a darn sight nicer than the Skodas of old!!!

Very nice mate - Jane's parents have a new Skoda and it's great. Very well built, decent price and a great performer. MAssively underrated cars.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Christ on a stick with blunt nails hammered in by judas, you've bought a Skoda!

I don't know much about cars at all, but I think Skoda have done a very good job of improving their image and reputation over the years!

Cheers Matt and Shobet - I knew you'd take the piss!  And yes, I suppose I am middle management!

The thing is, I'm not taking car abuse from someone who drives a hairdressers car...  ;)

Nice car dave.

You might notice people slowing down around you on the motorway as all the unmarked cop cars around me are Octavia VRs'.

I'm goin to be in the market for a new car in the summer. I'm currently smitten with the mazda 3 MPS.

I hope you enjoy it when you get it!

looks a bit boy-racer and lairy as well as being middle-management. i assume it has a fancy engine in it? i used to be all into cars, but since moving to london i've lost all interest. nevertheless, i would be chuffed to drive that thing! congrats.

Kieran - I've already got it!  I almost went for a white one for that pseudo copper look, but decided it would be a bit too similar to all the taxis round my way

gwEm - it's a hot-hatch for (slightly) grown up people.  I had loads of trouble deciding what to buy as:

a) I'm too old for a hot-hatch
b) Have no need of a family lugging people carrier
c) Too poor for a supercar
d) Too young for something sensible

I assume you're on about Matt and his purple roofed monstrosity and not my Yaris?
