I think I covered it in the thread title! I have an ash/rosewood Fender American Deluxe strat that's very toppy, acoustically. It will either have Suhr V60LP's or Bill Lawrence L45's in the neck and middle slots, but a bridge single coil doesnt 'cut the mustard. So I'm not looking for insane  metal output, but certainly something that doesn't sound like someone stuck a mattress in front of the amp. More Steely Dan/Santana/Tull/Wayne Krantz kind of tonal areas....

In particular, I need something that combines well with the middle pickup, as I use that a lot.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

PS it's going into a 2x6L6 amp, primarily clean but with a Marshall Guv'nor and either a TS-style OD or a Timmy for various shades of dirt...

I would look at a Crawler or Holydiver, both split very well.

Sorry, did not read properly. Thought about a bridgesinglecoil, but it has to be HB. For your type of styles I would think about a Mule, Abraxas or Crawler. All kind of vintage to vintagehot. Don't be put off buy a low dc-resistance. Even the Mule can handle metal with the right amp.
