Aftermath Pickup set just hit the Americas!!!
« on: February 11, 2011, 12:16:33 PM »
So my first set of BK's just got into the country "according to the tracking info", and my teeth are grinding with anticipation.   I ordered the open coil, with black bolts to drop into my MIJ Ibanez s7420.  Just wondering what to expect out of this combo, if any one has this set up or similar please comment.  I need something to hold me over!!!

I have one in my Ibanez RGD (basswood) and that pickup sounds incredible. It's like someone put a little sound engineer in my guitar. Everything is clear and articulate but never wimpy or sterile as some have said. I think this pickup really shines close to the strings or else it thins out quite  a bit.

Great to hear thanx!!!  I've played many pickups, but Im in love with the s7420, and I wanted to spoil it with these pup's.  I don't hate the stock V's in it, but there lacking for sure.  I'm a bit nervous because of the last hype I had heard about my last set of humbuckers I installed and not trying to drop names but I put an evolution and a liquifire in an esp mh and really found them character less. I neither loved nor hated them, they were just nothing special to me, and they felt very loose. In there defense though it was in an agathis body, but I am nervous even more so because the description are so similar between the aftermaths, and that set, but alas, Im sure there will be worlds of difference in the aftermaths.   Again thanx for any input!!

well there are no magic pickups. It all depends on the guitar, the style and your taste for what you want. It could be magic or junk,  you'll know pretty soon lol.

So very true!  Think most of us have been chasing the  elusive " perfect tone" for years, and I have came close but if working @  a music shop has taught me one thing its that 90% of tone is in the players hands.  Ive seen people make stock squiers sound like gold & I have heard people make vos gibsons sound terrible.  But yes soon enough, I definitely appreciate the input, and I will def post my conclusion.

Just installed the Aftermaths about an hour ago!!!! :D :D :D  BTW.  It took exactly 3 weeks from the day I ordered to get them to the East Coast of the U.S.A    I am more than impressed with the tone I am getting!!!   The description is dead on.  I really can't think of many ways to describe them other than just how BK describes them.  Tight, Sharp, Percussive.  I actually backed my noise gate off a bit because the pickups do some much of the work now.  Also the B string now is super cutting and tight , no more floppy loose tuba sounds, but the string definition is what I noticed most, every note is super defined, and compared to many other pickups I have tried that were described as having "great note definition"  usually lost tone in full chording,  well absolutely not these,  chords chime through beautifully, and full!!!  I see it hard for me to use anything else other than BK's from now on!

Same here. There are other high performance pickup manufacturers too like WCR or Lundgren but imo they still lack something compared to BKs. They're less transparent or something, idk.

I know exactly what your talking about.  Think its a bit of the personal touch.   I dealt with lundgrens before ,  and IMO just didn't get that vibe from them.  Everytime I have a question, comment , or concern the BK team are always right there for me.   That and theres something magical about the note separation.
