Just Done something very very silly
« on: February 14, 2011, 10:51:58 AM »
Bought a Clapton Beano les paul.........well reserved one anyway.

I have been thinking of buying a 1960 VOS for some time but would have to sell a load of gear to buy one so never really did it.I had known about the Beano les paul for a while and although Clapton is my biggest influence (1966-69) I always thought that even the VOS would be massive massive money so never even considered it.

I was perusing the web this morning and saw the first uk prices which were coming out a few hundred more than a normal 1960 VOS so just dived in without really thinking - oh dear, just had to do it.

Anyone want to buy a really nice PRS SC245? or a sunburst 22?

Nice choice, and they seem to be very popular - there's a lot of EC fans out there of course!  I wasn't sure if it would be in demand, given that it's not a replica?

Enjoy it mate, the CS stuff is great - I love my Pearly!

There seems to be very few that have made it to the UK and they are pretty much all pre sold. As you say its not a replica but the association would be enough for the die hards to open their wallets. I looked at it (semi sensibly) as a guitar that I actually wanted anyway but with an association to something that means something to me for not much more (relatively speaking).

If they do the fool sg I would sell a kidney to get one - but thats another story!

Yes big money - well over £4k but an R0 is over £4k now so depends how you look at it. Actually its a stupid amount of money but they have all presold.

Seems to have caused quitea  lot of contoversy but all those who have now got one have all said they like them on the merits of the instrument itself. Apparently the PAF a likes are quite hot and bright which sounds great.

Interest rates have stayed the same, so if you had the money in a savings account, you wouldn't get anywhere near as much fun out of it

I thought that a long time ago, they released a couple of "fool" replicas.  Seem to remember someting about it in an old mag (although I could be very wrong on that)
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

silly money indeed.. but i think those beano replicas look pretty nice to be honest, and its good to see clapton's involved with it.

Lots of money indeed! I'd love a LP but don't think I'll ever find one that fits me!

I'm assuming you're buying without trying? I don't want to put a downer on it but I hope there is a good returns policy! I assume there is. Suffice to say I really, really hope it's a cracking guitar and that it works out beautifully for you.

Well I have lpaced a deposit but I do get the chance to try it when it arrives and I don't have to buy it if I don't want it. They are relaxed about it as they already have someone who wants it if I don't.

Do you have the money? It won't make your family starve? Do you like the guitar?

Can't understand why it would be silly if all answers are "yes"... Okay, it's a lot pricey, you could have a luthier done it for less money, etc etc etc. But if you like and makes you happy, well... that is all about it, I guess...

I'm a bit out of the loop with these but I am sure they will be a worthwhile investment.

Oops I'd better edit that! My keyboard has been randomly omitting letters and whilst I spot most, I don't spot them all. Mouse is also playing up so the wireless thingy must be screwed.
