Clapton is selling the #1 of that Beano LP in his upcoming auction, plus at least three of those Crossroads 335s.

Well here is my review for what it is worth!

Well its a les paul (obviously) and the Beano is essentially an R0 with a tweaked neckand pickups etc. The quality of construction and finish is faultless - as good as I have seen on a guitar. The tops are not mega flamey as they are 'supposed' to be like the original. Quite how anyone knows apart from a few black and white photos is beyond me. It is quite understated and has a very classy worn in look with the VOS finish which is excellent by the way.

What concerned me was its playability - I'm used to PRS's that play themselves and my previous experiences with R9s haven't been all great due to the larger neck. This solves that fairly easily with a pretty skinny neck. Certainly smaller than a standard R0 and more like my old les paul classic (that I remember anyway). The setup etc was very good out of the box and it plays very very well - i was quite surprised on this actually as I was expecting a period of readjustment from playing PRS for the last 3 years. Its also very light - it is apparently unchambered but weighs just over 8 1/2 lbs - seems strange but there you go.

Tone wise it is fantastic. My PRS sc245 has been my favourite PRS for a while and it compares very well to that. It cleans ups beautifully and is quite bright when clean or on mild overdrive settings but if you wind up the gain it thickens up really nicely but retains a certain bite. The bridge PU is quite powerful for a PAF a like but it works brilliantly. Stick it into my Orion with a booster in front of it and you can recreate any tone you want from the bluesbreakers album - it will thicken up just as much and yet jangle away if you wind down the gain - everything I hoped it would do. My SC245 will also do this but the difference is beef and power - the Beano has quite a bit more of everything including bottom end. It also sounds quite a bit more vintage with less note seperation than a PRS.

So to sum up if you want a fast playing lester that looks like a proper burst then this is the one. Clapton association aside it is an excellent guitar. Just a short note too about Thomann where I bought it from. In the UK I had little or no choice and had to preorder and take whatever arrived and that was that. On Thomanns website they had 7 to choose from all detail photographed and weights published with a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee if I didn't like it. This to me was a far better option than having no choice at all - and they were significantly cheaper than the UK. There ciustoimer service was excellent and it has all gone very well.

They only do the photos and weights for you "big spenders"! :P

The rest of us have to make do with the 30 day guarantee (although they do seem to respond pretty well to queries). 

But I'm just envious.  Looks a fine guitar!  :D
