Hey everyone!
I was on the forum about 2-3 years ago, requesting opinions on a good metal pikcup for a Warmoth custom guitar of mine. I remember everyone being cool and very helpful (especialy Tim, when I emailed him!) The guitar build was a Mahogony body w/ a thin Koa top; AAA birdseye Maple neck; Brazillian Rosewood fretboard. Khaler Steller trem, w/2 Humbuckers. It is a pretty dark and warm sounding guitar. I ended up getting Painkillers and absolutely adored the sound! It was THE sound I was looking for, on that guitar.
The time has come again to start a discussion!
This time I have 2 guitars I am looking to fit with BKs. I just bought a USA made Charvel San Dimas; and I have a new custom on order from Warmoth (hopefully the body and neck will arrive at my doorstep in late April). Lately I have really wanted to start going the direction of brightness and snap in my tone; but still be able to have a crushing, and brutal rhythm tone w/ a great djenty, mid-range type feel.
Here are the specs:
- San Dimas -
Alder body, with a black matte finish. One piece Maple neck. Original Floyd – non recessed. Bridge PUP. I just got this sucker, and I love it, is simple and I can just shred on the thing. I ordered a brass big block and claw from floydupgrades, a Drop D tuna, and I was thinking of putting a Ceramic Pig in the guitar. I think it will sound monstrous! I love the brightness of the guitar and I think the edginess and the C-pig will compliment it nicely. Suggestions/Comments?
- Custom –
Soloist style, carved top. Alder body w/a Flame Maple Top. Flamed Maple neck and Fretboard. Fixed Tune-o-matic bridge, with sperzel locking tuners. 2 Humbuckers. I was thinking of getting an Aftermath for the bridge, and possibly a Dimarzio liquifire for the neck. I would really like to get something hand wound though. What do you guys think for the neck Humbucker, anything comparable/better?
I’m in a metal band that plays all kinds of metal, no real defined style. I’m playing through an Engl Savage 120, with a cab loaded w/ Vintage 30s. I also have an Engl Fireball 100 as a back up head (or when I feel like switching it up)
Thanks for bearing through my novel!
