I like the dynamics and one of the many tweaks I like is the choice between parallel and series loops.

Haven't played it but from all I've read and some info from a friend who's got one, I'd say it's the "better Shiva" - meaning it's got that tone and depth of the Shiva Ch2, but with a more versatile clean and a drive channl that can also do 80s hardrock. Based on that I'd get one anyday.

I played the Shiva and it's a nice amp, but found it missing something in the drivechannel. It is growling, but in a polished way, at least with my guitars. The Goldfinger has more punch to my ears and more magic to the tone.

I'm wondering whether to chop the AFD100 in for one...

You could instead exchange the XTC. IMO the Marshall would be more the candidate to give you a different flavour. The Classic and the Goldfinger would both be versatility/switchers with a similar voice, the Marshall a 1Ch no frills amp and more agressively voiced.

I had a situation where I had at one point 3 channel switchers (100B, Steavens and Triamp) and it didn't make any sense. So now I have the 100B as my versatility machine and the Cornford for pure 1Ch punch.

Funny you should say that Hunter, I've been thinking the same thing.

However, I played the XTC last night and it's so awesome the Goldfinger can't beat it.

GAS over

while we're talking amps in general, has anyone tried the Badcat Hotcat 30 before? - there is a video of Brad Whitford playing one on Youtube and it sounds righteous...

I played one of those and kept looking for the treble pot, but it was already at 10. No bite from these IMO. They have a great harmonic overdrive, but I bet once you play it in context, you're gonna be drowned out.

really, I'm quite surprised by that having heard the tone Brad Whitford was getting.

Amen!

Problem is that also the other 28 amps in that amp fest sound just as good.
