My mate bought his a few minutes after it had been traded in by its original owner. Apparently it belonged to Gwyn Ashton. His is blue and looks very much like the one in the far right of the picture on the opening page of the website- it might even be the same one. I can beleive exactly what you say by it having the vibe- I can readily understand that. I tried to sneak it out of his house but he noticed.

Very nice. Look forward to more picks and a few clips. What pickups did you get in it?
its got a Bareknuckle set of course :) I think I asked for the '69 Custom set. I can't seem to find my multimeter to check that at the moment though  :(

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

More pictures showing the really great aging. The finished is blonde, as most of you already no doubt spotted, its really nice close up, slightly transparent, looks really good.

Just to say again, it plays like a dream, set up is really good - from what I can see, and little i know about these things, John has radiused the frets slightly flatter than the 7.25" radius of the fingerboard. anyway - the point is the action is medium-low and i can do two semi-tone bends without fretting out. neck is fast too. the dark rosewood gives the whole thing a mellow sound. i really need to verify what pickups are in there so i can tell you all more about them - but its time for work again :(

It looks great, glad it all worked out.  John really does make his guitars play like old ones.  I have just ordered another from him, blue ice metallic, with a 67 bound rosewood neck and matching headstock.

If you have the 69 set, mine are 13k, 5.6k, 5.6k AV magnets.
So many pickups, so little time

Congratulations Gwem, it looks great.  certainly more convincing than anything i've seen from Fender.  i do remain unconvinced by the whole relicing thing, but i appreciate a thing of beauty when i see it.  hope you get much pleasure from it.

i actually played a '64 strat on Monday, in the same place that had the gold V.  it was heavily worn, what paint was left was that salmony pink/red colour.  beautiful guitar, and played quite nicely, but it did choke out on bends and the neck was tiny!  nonetheless, i chose not to plug it in, as i didn't want to find myself trying to find twelve grand :)

I've always said that I would get a Fender CS relic again some day. I think this guitar may change my mind! Everything on his site looks great!
I think I hate being indecisive.

I'm surprised you gents haven't seen the Bravewood site before, it's been giving me GAS for years!

I think this would be the one for me, but a bit more reliced and I'd ask if he could do a "white on top of sunburst" finish.  I'd also kind of like a bridge humbucker, but not sure if he'd do that.....

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Hi Philly, John does do white over sunburst.  I have it on the body he made me for my 60 neck.
