Questions about Warpigs for Jackson SLSMG
« on: March 27, 2011, 01:56:13 PM »
Hello everyone here, I've decided to buy a set of Warpigs to replace my emg's!
My guitar is a Jackson Soloist SLSMG ( no floyd rose ) Mahony body, ebony fretboard, very light and thin body,...
It's the 2006 version I believe, it had passive emg-hz's in it but I've let the wires, potmeters, etc replaced by the wires, potmeters for active emg's and changed the pickups with an EMG81 and EMG60 but it just doesnt do it for me...
For some strange reason the gain is also much less than with an other guitar I used to have with the same pickups  :?
Anyway, I'm hoping I'm going to have more gain again and a way better sound with the Warpigs I'm going to buy.

I have some questions though about it:
- Would I also have to buy and replace some new potmeters/wires/... for the Warpigs ?
- How long should the leg be for this guitar?
- I'm guessing a braided 2 conductor is alright for just a normal setup ( no advanced options needed ) ?
- What would be the right spacing ?

Sorry for the stupid questions

YES, new pots + cable. You can keep the selector. YOu need some cable mostly to ground everything. You should also maybe order some new capacitor for the tone pot, they cost next to nothing but it can be annoying if you don't have one then.

I don't know.

Yes, but you should always get the 4 conductor one; I find it is easier to install, has a better resale value and obviously gives you more options, in case you one day want some split coil sounds on that guitar.

- What would be the right spacing ?

I don't know that guitar too well, but it should be the smaller one. If in doubt, measure the strings distance.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

If you want the pots from the shop then best to use the 550k ones. The standard tone capacitor value for humbucker equipped guitars is 0.022uf (which is the equivalent to 22nf or 22000 pf). Higher values make the tone darker with the tone pot turned down, lower values will make it less dark. If in doubt, get a few caps of different value and experiment (they are cheap).

BTW: if you are unsure about the leg length I recommend the short legs.

Cheers Stephan
