PUPs for a Custom V
« on: April 02, 2011, 08:25:10 AM »
New to the board and I have been hearing alot about BK pups for awhile now.  I figured new guitar, lets give them a shot.  I am having a Custom V built, all Mahogony with Ebony Board.  The body will be  1.75 to 2.0 thick with .25 flamed maple top.   I am into all things Rock, I love the 80's and the more Modern sound the most.  I am not so much into the Heavy Metal scene, but I guess that would depend on what someone's definition of metal.  I would say Ramstein, BFMV. Disturbed, and similar is about as heavy as I go.  But AC/DC, Ozzy, Priest, and that group, then Alterbridge, WolfMother, Black Stone Cherry, Airbourne, Seether,Nickelback and that group is what I am into the most.  I have a very good tube amp that can get most of the tones, and for the heavier stuff I have to run effects.  I want the sound to be tight/articulate/defined.  I mainly am a rhythm player now, but as I progress I want to be proficient at both.  What can you guys recommend?

Thank You from Afghanistan!

Have a look at the Stockholms. I think they do great in a V.

i fitted hot P90s in a V once, and they didn't exactly work out (were fairly dark sounding) - however they weren't BKP Stockholms.

I think you have a lot more experience with V's then I have. I just like P90's in mahogany. You could be right that the Stockholms would be a little dark, but I don't know them. Just liked the clips.

When Tim says Cold Sweats, listen to him. He knows his pu's best.

I have also gotten a PK recommendation, any thoughts on that?

A PK has emphasized uppermids. A bit more mid then the CS. Not a bad choice at all, I think.
