OK,
got bit of cash and selling some things I do not use and would take up packing space for moving.
So looking to buy another guitar before coming back to UK.

Now I have the Gibson Les Paul (and cannot afford another one right now :( ). SO been trying to think of another complimentory guitar.

While at guitar store today I tried a Gibson SG Standard and a Jackson Soloist (Japan made with straight through neck). The Jackson felt really good.

Anyone have either of these and have advice/opinions?

Any other axe I should be looking at in the $600-$1,000 range to bring over to UK?

Need your opinions here people :)
So many darn guitars out there.

Nick

I always thought that, having done the Gibson thing, one might look into doing the Fender thing. I never really warmed up to strats that much, but I thought a Telecaster would be cool for me second guitar.

yeah, i reckon a strat and a tele are at least worth a try, to see what you think of them. i know guitars are a very preferential (is that the adjective form of preference? or have i said somthing competely unintended) thing, i've been playing a strat for a while and i just got a LP, which i'm finding quite difficult to love (although it does have superlight gauge strings, which i hate).

but i disgress. you may as well try it. in the words of sam-i-am, "try it, try it, you may like it!"

Tried a Jackson Soloist (neck through) at Guitar Centre today and loved it. Great neck, very comfortable body. Made in Japan and black though! Also, scratched as at Guitar Centre (all get abused.

Anyway, local guy is selling a 1991 Ontario Ca USA Soloist in white. P/U S/S/H, professionally upgraded to active. Claim to fame it supported Drowning Pool at "Trees" in Dallas (show my fiance was at).
Reckon may be able to get it for $800 or less.

Sound like a good deal for a USA Soloist through-neck (in non-in ya face white).

The Jap Charvel and Jackson guitars are excellent- very good build and decent hardware.

I've got a Charvel Model 6 which is virtually the same as a soloist and it's great. I had it pimped up by Feline Guitars who use this forum. It's got BKP's in now, Miracle Man and Trilogy suite. Plus stainless steel jumbo frets. I've still got a silly grin when i play it 6 months after the work was done to it!

VERY Nice Johnny Mac
Yeah,am leaning towards the Jackson/Charvel guitars.
NOT that I am anti Fender, just so many of them around and I truly loved the feel of the Jackson. The sculptured body and great neck just felt right!
Dealing with a seller that is A.not a shop/retailer and B.not on your doorstep is always somewhat of a risk/pain but can be worth it.
Local Pawn shop has the CHarvel mentioned plus a Jackson RR neck through, and two soloist neck throughs (they want $1,000+ for these though as they are mint/new).
I will continue to look at the soloist I have my eye on for now.

there is this one too, but more than I "want" to spend and also not sure about the GLARING graphics LOL. My hair is not long enough or permed ROFLMAO to pull it off.

This is a truly strangely finished guitar also (had never seen one like before) but is a JEM, which kinda good good reviews HAHAHA.

Think the white soloist is my best bet thus far.

Nick

BTW, THANKYOU sooooooooo much my music brothers. You have way more experience than me and I SOOOOO value your thoughts/opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, LOVED the neck on the neck-through. Used to have a Warwick bass like this but being a bass it was more substantial. In your all opinions, are neck-through guitars a liability due to their design? i.e. fubar if damaged.

A good luthier can fix almost anything. Neck-thrus that have gone FUBAR are extremely rare.

if you want a super strat, i'd look into some ibanezes and esp's as well.

I like ibanezes, but jacksons are really nice too. Haven't really tried any esp super strats.

And i also second looking into a fender of some sort.

Well
right now am def. interested in a Jackson SL2H 01' and a Jackson Soloist 91'.
I just love the neck on these things.
I guess it would be smater too as Fender, like Gibson (in many ways) cries out for modding (not that it's necessary but y'know). Basically the Jackson's are good to go from the start. Only thing is I do not want a really IN YA FACE paint job which Jackson is VERY fond of. Looking at a single colour and NOT black this time (darn how much polishing can one guitar need LOL).
Anyway, looks like Jackson is more rare in UK too (and as brought up in automotive industry) can NEVER forget resale value. Yeah I KNOW this should NOT be a criteria but I was taught it from "nappy" age and is forever in my head.

Also, SLSMG (turns out to be model I tried yesterday) Japan made Jackson could be choice too.
Wonderful feel, light, comfortable with through neck and absolutely NO heel. Also this has body through stringing which should produce wonderful sustain (did'nt try it for long yesterday).
