Single-coil suggestions?
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:34:14 PM »
Hi all,
I'm looking for a good set of single-coils for my old ibanez s430ii which only has 3 single-coil pickups, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 5way switch. I mainly play metal (opeth, Hypocrisy, megadeth, pantera, etc), , but also looking for a nice warm lead tone for a neck/mid pickup for playing stuff like Andy Timmons, Paul gilbert, yngwie, etc. or cleans like Opeth, Pink Floyd, Porcupine tree, etc.

I currently have a hotrails in the bridge, but I've heard good things about BKP's The Sinner and thinking about replacing it with that instead. What do you guys recommend as a good p'up set?

I read in other threads on here that The Sinner/Irish Tours were a good combo, but does anyone have any good clips or samples of how these sound together? I checked utube and couldn't find much on these at all. I'm also into the "djent" stuff, and it's a shame I don't have room for an Aftermath or a warpig or something. :D

Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions you guys have.
Cheers!

I don't think you want the IT's for warm Andy Timmons-sounds. They're quite vintage and gritty sounding. I love them, but Sinners or a combo Sinner-bridge with Slowhands (more mids) or Trilogy's (Blackmore-type sounds) would suit your style better.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
