Suggestions for pickups.
« on: April 14, 2011, 10:27:02 PM »
Hello everyone,

my name is Mike and I am new to the forum, so this is my virgin thread, considering new pickups. Also to mention that I have never tried BK pickups. So it will be my first experience.

I have a Vigier Excalibur Ultra Blues, it has a two center-joined pieces of solid, naturally aged alder body with a maple top and a maple fretboard.

It has 2 single coils for neck and middle, and 1 humbucker on the bridge.

What would you suggest for fusion(jazz rock) +shreddy tone??

Thank you in advance,
Mike

hello!
to welcome you to the forum i'm posting a nearly useless answer (:P), because i know just marginally fusion and have got very little experience with alder (well, once i had a strat, but it was a lifetime ago...).
anyway my instinct suggests me that a holy diver could suit your needs... it "loves" alder, and has got a full and fluid tone.
now it's time for more focused opinions... :)
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Hehe, np.  :D

The Holy diver seems "hot" but not as hot as other humbuckers. I want something in the bridge that can deliver nice leads, plus legato runs won't sound weak. As for single coils, I wanna be able to get something near to a tone of a humbucker on the neck.

The Holy Diver does fluid leads very well, one of the best BKP-leadpickups. What you describe for the neck is Trilogies. If you want anything hotter then the HD, it will get to much probably for jazz. It would stick to alnico's at least. My Crawler does fluid leads very well too, but is not a shreddy pu. The HD will provide better metaltones.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Our very own Nolly playing some fusion on a Vigier with the HD/TS/TS set

Speaking from my own excalibur experience i would say this set would be perfect
