Midlands Music Shops (for amps!)?
« on: April 15, 2011, 01:12:03 PM »
Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right forum...

but basically I'm trying to find music shops in the Midlands area (I live in Nottingham, but would happily travel to Birmingham or wherever!).

1. I want one shop that buys second hand amps (selling my Line 6 Spidervalve combo) as I hate ebay.

2. I want to find a shop where I can try lots of different high gain amps (mesa's, H&K etc.) - as I have an Engl Powerball but may want to change it for something else and I really need to play through the amps to decide (nothing like it in Nottingham....).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Alex

Is there not a shop in Nottingham near The Old Angel pub somewhere? Do they not have much?

Nottingham is pretty awful for Guitar shops - a trip to Brum beckons......Guitar Guitar and PMT are pretty good. Don't know who stocks H&K stuff though

Dmoney - the one near the angel has some great stuff but its so small so only has a handful or kit (but the handful it has is excellent).  The staff are great too, but its pricey - so what I'm looking for is basically a massive version of that, where I can try lots of amps - such a shop may not exist lol

PPPMAT - yeah, theres some that are good for pedals and accessories, and a few with some decent guitars but when it comes to amps and cabs theres nothing I know of :S  I'll check out PMT and guitar guitar and see what they stock, cheers for that.

if anyone knows of any more then please feel free to contribute! :)

I'm from just outside Nottingham too and I ended up going to Sounds Great Music in Cheadle when I was looking for my new amp last year.

They gave me a relatively fair trade in price on some gear I was sellign and just left me alone to try whatever I wanted in the shop.

I know some people here have had pretty poor run ins with them and their staff, but the both times I've been I've been treated well.

Whats the shop near the Angel btw?
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

cheers brow, I'll check them out as well! Particularly if they'll part chop other equipment, that sounds ideal.

the one near the Angel is called Fuzz - its actually a spin off from the guitar shop in West Bridgford, but a bit more up market. its just so little tho!

I've never heard of that shop before! Will keep an eye out next time I'm in Nottingham.

Electro Music in Doncaster is good as well.

Reverb in Birmingham has a lot of H&K and Orange amps. It's in Lionel Street in Birmingham, it seems though their old address is still on the web.
PMT is horrible, really bad prices and I hate the staff to the extent that I vowed never to buy anything there.
Fair Deal Music really only has guitars (but very nice ones). They stock almost no amps.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog
