Pickup help!
« on: April 17, 2011, 11:37:10 PM »
Hello kind people, new here.

I have recently come to a conclusion that my stock bridge pickup on my PRS SE sounds quacky (that sound you get when you push the mids all the way while reducing your bass and treble), and since no amount of amp EQing can help it, I've decided to change it.

I'm looking for something that will handle high gain like a pro, from Sabbath through Alice in Chains and High on Fire and up to super distorted alt-rock tones (think pre-Black Holes era Muse or Smashing Pumpkins), but also a lovely round, warm, smooth clean sound, but not without a potential to get crunchy. Basically, I'm looking for a pickup that can do it all. Also, it's going to have a coil split, so if it can sound good as a single coil, that'll be a great bonus.

MY guitar is a PRS SE Custom 24, which is mahogany neck/body with rosewood fretboard, running into a Jet City 20 watt combo.

Am I asking for too much? Will I have to compromise something?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome here! That sounds like an alnico Nailbomb. If you want a bit less uppermid aggressiveness and more fluids leads/warm mids check out the Holy Diver. Both clean up nice and split well.
