Status Quo tone

Hi I have a tele build underway and am looking for the classic early 70's Status Quo tone. The pickup which caught my eye was boss set, what do you think any other sugestions. The tele is alder body'd with a maple neck by the way.

I think the Boss is perfect for Quo. Fits well to maple necks too.

Surely the piledriver is "the Quo pickup" as it's named after a Quo album

Blackguards will do the job too. You need of course a decent tubeamp. Quo isn't too satured, it's more about volume, pushing the endtubes. Then you get those big rhythmtones on a tele.

Contender number one: Piledriver for obvious reasons.

Contender number two: Blackguard '50 (the new 10K one).

Quo has a pretty fat sound.

My suggestion would be a Piledriver with 500k volume and tone pots.

Piledriver does seem the obvious choice, although presumably Status Quo weren't actually using high-output pickups?

I suppose it may depend whether you're trying to get that tone through a home setup or a big stage rig.

ironically francis rossis' old green tele (60's) has lace sensor golds in it which are a noiseless version of a low output
 50's strat pup.

I don't think they do use high output pickups no, but if I remember right Rick Parfitt uses 12 or 13 gauge strings on his Tele so maybe the Piledriver is wound hotter to try and get some of that type of tone?

Indeed, the fatness comes from the strings and the amps/cabs.
