On the other hand, now we might get to listen to van + jeff without warrels pretentious meandering whittering shite traming all over the songs.

Was somewhere between tolerable and good but the vocals and songwriting on Obsidian were $%&#ing dire.

I for one am happy

I liked obsidian musically. Rather a lot in parts. But dane just blundered all over it.

I'm really excited to see what loomis does nex; that man has talent in droves, and van is a much overlooked monster drummer. I hope they stay together, and I hope they build a new band, which will slay.

:(  This is really sad news.  Gutted.  I loved Nevermore.

I disagree with MDV & Keven that Obsidian Conspiracy is a "bad" album.  OK, it's not as strong end-to-end as This Godless Endeavour & there are places (especially the title track) where the vocals grate a little, but "And the maiden spoke", "Without morals" & "The day you built the wall" are IMHO among the best songs Nevermore ever wrote.

As for Dane's vocals, I love what he was trying to do - vocalists that actually sing over extreme metal aren't exactly thick on the ground   There are places where he comes across as strangely tuneless & he did seem to rely on the same 3 or 4 melodic phrases, but I think he was more good than bad for Nevermore.

Haven't heard obsidian conspiracy, but i've got most of Nevermores' discography at home and i like Warrels vocals a lot. It's what made them stand out. Sure he's not brilliant all the time, but most of the songs are great (i think the disharmony was the selling point of Nevermore, if we don't count Loomis' solos :D ).

I think Loomis and Williams will just continue doing more of the same (if you listen to Loomis' solo record, it's pretty much Nevermore with solos instead of vocals). Warrels album is a bit more out there, but still similar-ish enough thematically (though i LOVE his cover of Lucretia my reflection)

I just hope they don't fall into generic-ness and start sounding as every other powery-thrashy-melodicy-band out there, cos i'm really fed up with symphony x, evergrey, scar symmetry and similar sounding bands at the moment

musically the obsidian conspiracy wass great from a technical point of view. but the songs were lacking the hooks that this godless endeavor and even enemies of reality may have.

right about loomis' solo album. i felt he was even reusing some licks (from the river dragon solo and older stuff) so the album didn't impact me so much

i agree about the cover of lucretia my reflection. a great vocal performance. and an awesome guitar tone!

Great... maybe I can buy their band name from them?  I've always liked the name "Nevermore"... but to get back on topic, it's a damn shame that they split.

they've never been on my radar and now I know why (quick youtube listen) - dear me, bloody awful mid-paced polished metal with 'proper' vocals.  meh!
