Sound like gilmour on a les paul...
« on: April 23, 2011, 09:25:39 PM »
Hi, i'm a big fan of BKP (even though i only purchased Trilogy pickups for the moment ^^),
but i create this topic for a simple reason: my father starts playing the guitar and is ordering one
to a stringed instrument maker of my town. But I got a serious problem, he bought a Les Paul style guitar but
wants David Gilmour's sound... I know, that's kind of strange but we can't go back. So I wanted to know which BKP were the most indicated for his case (I mean, I thought about Mississipi Queen in Neck and Mule in Bridge but I don't know everything about BKP's  :D). So, what can you guys tell me (I know Gilmour plays a lot with neck pickups, so I thought about a more metal bridge pickup, when I want to play it)?
Sorry for my english (I'm french). And thanks to the BKP team, who makes better every day of my musician's life!

Well the 2nd solo from Comfortably Numb is a Les Paul with P90s

I'd go for any of them with a good big muff based fuzz pedal.

Not sure which though as I haven't owned any of them

Welcome! A calibrated Mule-set or a Mule/MQ-set would do well for Gilmour-tones.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

So, a MQ in Bridge and a Mule in Neck or the opposite?

I think a lot will come down to pedals. HTH on this forum is building me a valve based overdrive pedal with (I think) two gain stages to add the necessary beef for the singing sustaining tone for tracks like Comfortably Numb. Gilmour himself uses a Butler Audio tube distortion pedal I think.
