G&L Guitars

I've been looking for a guitar for a friend of mine who really likes Strats but would like the variety of an HSS layout and a Floyd. I came across this and it looks like fantastic value. Does anybody know just how good G&L guitars are in general and this one in particular?

not really much choice on finishes though, but my charvel is now my go-to guitar. I play it more than my LPC.

I'm sure you know this already, but you need to distinguish between the USA-made G&L guitars and the Tribute Series, which are made for G&L by Cort in Indonesia - hence the much lower price.

The US models are top quality instruments, mostly designed by Leo Fender as refined versions of his Strat and Tele designs.  I've never tried any of the Tribute models, but they look like good copies of the US guitars and they get good reviews.

I've played a handful of USA G&Ls - solid instruments, very well made. If they're providing something thats a spec you want to go for I dont think you should worry about the quality youre gonna get.

It looks better value to me than the Fender version that has a Floyd Rose. If I'd known of the guitar before I'd have considered it instead of my Jackson as it always feels odd to me, playing an obviously 'shred' guitar when that's the last thing I am. I do still love my Jackson though with its thru-neck  :D

Anyway, I'll let him know the feedback is good and suggest the San Dimas too. I should have thought of that one myself seeing as Adrian Smith is one of my favourite players!

The Tributes are nice guitars for the price. But I would look at the Canadian-made Godin Session too. They come in HSS and nice colours like Lake Placid blue.

i ever came across a tribute asat classic that was made in japan a long time ago. not sure if this extends to the rest of the models though. reckon it is the first few batches before production moved to korea and then indonesia.

haven't played any from indonesia but the koreans make pretty good stuff. those i've tried smokes majority of fender's mim offerings.

Yeah, I'm always tempted by that ESP (and I'm really not a relic guy), and it's about half the price of the G&L. As has been said, the G&L Tributes are Indonesian Corts, yet they cost the same as top of the line Korean Corts. I'd say that a Japanese Charvel is better value for money.

wow, thats great value.

The next guitar I'll buy will likely be a Music Man EVH - the necks are just SO nice on those.  Would be of more use to me in a HSS format though - would need to have it set up with coil tapped humbuckers, PRS style.

The AX40's play nice, but the licensed floyd is horrible.  Oh, and I prefer floating trems.

Is there such a model like I've described?  :?
