Gibson 7 String Flying V

I think Gibson have done 7 string Vs before but this new one is quite interesting

I like the black and gold and I think they've solved how to handle the tuners as elegantly as is possible. That said I still don't really want one but it's a sign of Gibson doing something a bit different without putting the entire design department on crystal meth (see Firebird X).

That's going to be a bitch to intonate. 24.75 inch scale length + TOM bridge + Big low B string = pain in the buttocks.

It does look cool but going from experience keeping that low string intonated is just so much hassle.

It's.... OK.  The centre tuner looks "wrong" but it does sort of make sense.

I like the gold hardware, but it needs conventional pickups (how about some BKPs with gold covers?)

And please Gibson, if you're going to keep making black limited edition guitars, put ebony boards on them!!

The bridge is angled :) but it will be a bitch to intonate below B

all the 25.5" ones i've played have never been optimal imho

never played a 24.75" one but i imagine it would be a mess

The tone ZW have on the "BBBB" DVD on the "B tuned" songs are one of the best tones in low tunning I've heard... May be personal preference, tought... I really dislike MOST of 25.5" scale on metal

BTW, beside the tunning pegs, I like this V a lot!

I couldn't agree more! I used to have an Ibanez RG for B standard tuning, but when I got my baritone (27") it just opened my eyes on what wonders a longer scale does.

Seems to work for Zakk Wylde though. Good quality woods and well made neck affect the attack and playability of course. Wylde's guitars have a maple+ebony neck though, so it's got a lot tighter and crisper attack than a mahogany+rosewood.
