Nearing Final Decision
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:35:32 PM »
I am nearing a final decision on a set of BKP. I am zeroing in on an Emerald for the neck and an Abraxas for the bridge of a Gibson Les Paul. I'm going for a vintage-voiced, but modern rock/alternative sound. Does this combo of BKP sound like it will do the job, or should I be looking at something else? Thanks.

definately Abraxas bridge.

for the neck, I'd have said Abraxas too, but since putting the Cold Sweat neck in, I'm loving it - all the clarity of the Abraxas neck, but more power too (not mad amounts though, its still only 8k in the neck).

Abraxas-bridge is great, vintagevoiced, but proper mids, and a chimey topend. Versatile pu I reckon. I have the Crawler, which is a heavier Abraxas, you could say. Crawler is a bit more compressed. For the neck there are several good options. Like a Abraxas, CS or VHII. It depends on how vintage is has to be. I like the clips of the VHII-neck. The Emerald will do fine too. It has not too much bass, so it will shine in a Les Paul-neckpos.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Dude, I was thinking about this exact same combo... :D
I think it would be a great sounding setup, I usually use my neck pickup for my cleans anyway so a nice clean pickup is what I would personally go with. Maybe even a Mule because it's really balanced and I've heard good things about it
