Smoking in England
« on: May 09, 2011, 07:07:29 PM »
Hey guys! I'll be in London in a couple of weeks, I need to take care of some business. So, I am really eager to know about the smoking ban. Where can you smoke? Cause I need to smoke. I know it's bad for my health. Can't help it  :(

Parks? Street? Pubs (outside terrace)? Etc...

I'd appreciate your input  :)

Yeah... b@stards

Pretty much like Twinfan says - you can smoke outside. Me and the missus were at a restaurant on Saturday, sitting outside. Smoking seemed ok there. We were under an awning though, strictly that could count as "inside" but the restaurant didn't seem to think so. The other diners didn't seem to give a monkey's either (mind you, most of the tables seemed to have at least one smoker at some point or other).

I tend to look for the fag butts on the ground (by the way, it's actually illegal to drop butts now, I believe) and I spark up if I can see evidence of smoking. Obviously, if someone else is smoking and world war three hasn't broken out, then I take that as permission to "smoke 'em if you've got 'em"...

Anything inside though, you can expect to spend half your time wondering when the next fag break is, and the other half outside with the other poor schmucks...

I do see the point of the legislation, and I do kind of support it, even as a smoker... But it does get really annoying if the non-smokers start complaining that you keep leaving them and going outside... they don't seem to understand that having a cigarette, now that we are forced to make a choice, is obviously a damn sight more interesting than their company!

I usually have a Stubbie ashtray in my sky rocket when I'm out and about.  I smoke roll ups and the butts don't stink your pockets out like fag ones.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

You have to go inside for a breath of fresh air these days.
Give it up, it's not that hard.

Thanks guys. I actually found a cheap hotel that allows smoking in rooms, so I think I'll be fine. My government did pass a similar legislative act. And modified it in less than a year. Croatia is a tobacco smoking country and I don't see it changing any time soon. Plus, contributions from taxes on tobacco do help the national budget a bit in these hard times.

FWIW...... I quit smoking years back. But then a girl I thought I was going to marry broke up with me during our romantic weekend getaway. So I started again. What can you do?  :violin1:

You don't have to kiss her on the lips...
