Let's make another "which pickup"-thread
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:04:04 PM »
Hi guys
So, I need some BKPs again. Had a little financial problems a while ago, and my beloved BKPs had to go

I need a new bridge pickup for my '92 Jackson USA Rhoads (=neck-through maple neck, poplar wings, ebony fretboard) it's tuned to C standard (C F Bb Eb G C). I'm thinking of trying the Aftermath? The style I play with this guitar is deathmetal. Fairly technical, so I need clarity. I've also considered the Cold Sweat? How does this work as a bridge pickup? Do you think it would be too bright?

I also need a new bridge pickup for my '06 Tokai LS150 (mahogany set-neck, rosewood fretboard, mahogany body with a maple top) This guitar is supposed to be my versatile guitar. It will be doing both E-standard and D-standard, depending on my mood when I change the strings on it. I'm thinking a Miracle Man?

Soooo, am I totally lost?

The Cold Sweat works fine in a maple neck-thru, though it's a bright pickup. I don't know about the Aftermath as I've never tried one but the Miracle Man would be an excellent choice for maple neck-thru so I'd be inclined to put the Miracle Man in the Jackson as opposed to the Tokai.

Based on my understanding of the Aftermath, if I was going to use one, I'd be more likely to put it here rather than the Jackson. The other option for versatility would be a Nailbomb. I didn't get on with it at all in my Jackson but for your style and in a mahogany guitar, I think it should sound fantastic and be pleasantly different to a Miracle Man in the Jackson.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

I second the idea to put the MM in a Jackson. The Aftermath will do too. It has quite some mids and a very tight bass. I think the Cold Sweats are a little too polished for your style and they could on the bright side.

For the Tokai the MM won't deliver versality. From what I heard it's a one-trick-pony. I think Rebel Yell's are a better option. They are quite tight and capable of doing metal.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Aftermath in a Jackson SL2H tuned to C# for tech metal and it's amazing.
