I think Mother's Milk capture those Hendrix/Frusciante-tones, although with my IT's I can get very close, especially when I roll the vol.knob just a tad back. Of course with single coils, the amp contributes to the fatness of the sound. I believe he plays a Two Rock-amp.
I have the IT's in my swampashstrat (MXG custom strat, made by Patrick Eggle), maple neck, ebony fingerboard, in conjunction with the Crawler. The splitted Crawler is stellar. Very good strat tones and really Fenderish-quacky (in splitmode) with the middle-IT. I play in a coverband that does everything from old Stevie Wonder, funk, disco to rock and modern stuff like Shakira, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez etc. All these songs is can play with this guitar. Only sometimes I grab my tele.
The Crawler is a fine pickup for everything from pop, rock, classic rock to hardrock. Thanks to the bold midrange it really sings when pushed and when pushed more it growls like a bear. Solonotes are thick and dynamic. I like the balance of this pickup in a strat. Enough of every frequency.
