The track I always put on first when I fancy listening to some Hendrix is Killing Floor, which is a live number from Monterey. It's a Howling Wolf cover I think. Anyway the opening rhythm guitar in Ab is Played with so much oomph it never fails to impress. The tone is massive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8hqM7xys3U&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I also like Foxy Lady as it's the first Hendrix song I ever heard as a 10 year old. Good for tennis racquet air guitar and jumping off your bed! :D
I like too many. Manic Depression, Are You Experienced?, Ezy Rider ect

I'm going to go straight for the jugular- Purple Haze.

He's obviously done bucketloads of great tracks but hearing that for the first time when I was 12/13 set me on edge like nothing before or since; it was revolutionary, a monolith of passion and brilliance that was too good to come through mere headphones, too good to be described as music. To me it redefined what music was, and what it should be. I came in to school with my mp3 player trying to get everyone to listen to it but most of the day I spent on my own listening to it over and over again. Absolute perfection. Absolutely fantastic.

Re the above, in january 67 I was watching TOTP and he popped up doing Hey Jo and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Two months later he on there doing Purple Haze, jeezuus! For my money the best rock single ever.

Like many others, it changes all the time, but I remember how it felt as a kid to hear "Crosstown Traffic" and "Angel". My dad had all the Jimi Hendrix vinyl albums, and those two songs have always blown me away. I'm listening to "Angel" now, and the drama and emotion of the arrangement is just incredible. I love all the effects and the different strands of guitar that come in and out.

I'm like a lot of people here it's kinda hard to choose as I love loads of his stuff all for different reasons.

'Voodoo Chile' as it's the track that really made me want to pick up and learn guitar.
'Crosstown Traffic' for the genius that is the comb n paper kazoo.
'All Along the Watchtower' again as others have said it completely redefined the song, only example other example I can think that does that is Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah (I'm sure there are many others)
I could go on.....

Just realised I've not been on here in ages.

gotta be Voodoo Chile (slight return) for me, no question - when that kicks in all hell breaks loose.

I keep meaning to post on this, but can't make a choice...

So it's between:

A bunch of songs on Are You Experienced (the title song itself is a stunner, and Fire, Manic Depression, Love or Confusion, take yer pick...)

Highway Chile, what a stunner.

Stone Free - omigod.

But I am VERY fond of one of the four sides of Electric Ladyland (side 3? can't remember - and listening to it on CD nowadays doesn't help me remember ). The side with all the dreamy sh1t on it - Rainy Day Dream Away, and 1983 a Merman I should turn to be, or something like that. I've never even managed to figure out where one song ends and the one next starts. But if I could have only one side of Hendrix - that's what I'd ask for.

The best songs, though, for me, are those killer pop-rock ones on Are You Experienced.

The most stunning guitar playing, or at least the stuff that floats my boat the most, is on a live Stone Free and on an instrumental called Driving South on the BBC Sessions.

EDIT: Just realised I've completely by-passed Axis. I do love it, but given a choice I'd put Experienced on first, then Ladyland, then the newer "unreleased albums" - two of them, can't remember what they're called - and only then Axis might come out before the live albums. It was the first one I owned in the early 80s, and it feels like mebbe it's one of those "classics" I played to death so I don't fancy putting them on, but when I do it's "yeeeaahhh..."

For me it's got to be Midnight from the Hendrix CD (South Saturn Delta).
That tune is just f@#kin amazing, it's got Hendrix splashed all over it.
Play it loud until your ears bleed and your brain turns to mush, excellent the ultimate Hendrix track.

I'd have to say either Angel, Red House, or maybe Wind Cries Mary.
Little Wing is a favorite but is too short.

From what I understand you saying is that Little Wing is so brilliant you wish it where longer.   :)
