Our company is under new ownership and is having a BIG restructure.

Good news is that I have a pay rise (quite a good one).... YAY

Bad news is that I think I'm about to be laid off..... BOO

Give with one hand, take away with the other

Sorry to hear that!

I don't quite get why they're giving the pay rise just before laying you off - or is it a general restructuring of pay scales because of the new ownership?

Are they likely to give a decent redundancy payment, d'you think?  At least that would see you through a few months.

I wish my evil company would get it's finger out and make me redundant. It's starting to really get on my tits that it keeps passing me by. I've got other things I need to do and I could really do with a nice wedge to allow me to do it.

Yeah, bringing everything in line with their other business.  Been looking at the new structure and can't really see myself in it.

Redundancy should be about three-four months wages, but the taxman and student loans will take half of it.  So I'll only have enough to keep us afloat for a month or so.  Might have to go contracting for a while.

Tell me about it.  Got three things that I'm working on outside of work and I could do with a BIG payout.

The first should bring in a few grand, although there is some serious potential.
The second is helping someone out with their project and then they'll use that project to secure funding my third project
The third is going to get me that Lambo I've been after

All in all, we're not worrying too much.  Like Plexi Ken, there's a hell of a lot of people in this situation at the minute and it'll all come good in the end.

Ahhhh bollox - Think I may have a job afterall  :(

Looks like it might be a bit less of a position, but on the same money.

Hopefully it will be a bit less stressful as most of my projects should be in the same area (not spread out between Bristol and Skeggy like they are at the minute).  Should find out over the next few months.
