Hi,

I own a Suhr with those specs :

- 1 piece flame maple body
- 1 piece maple neck
- recessed bridge
- Suhr ML pickups

I'd like to change the pickups to have more gain, I'm hesitating between "Trilogy set" and "The Sinner set" ??????

It's a bright sounding guitar and I'd like to be close to the sound of early TOTO's albums from I to IV, when Lukather used stratocaster style guitars with 3 EMG single coils.

Below you can see videos :

- Of my Suhr (I play a TOTO song : Goodbye Elenore with the Suhr pickups mounetd on it)

- Of the original TOTO version of this song with a stratocaster mounted with 3 EMG single coils :

- Of other TOTO songs where you can hear the same sound I want to be close of :

Can't comment on the pickups (although yeah, all maple is pretty bright but can work really well) but I just want to add HOLY COW for the epic Suhr.  :!: :!: :!:
A-Pig 7s, Miracle Man & Mule, Cold Sweats... Expensive kit and no talent posse.

Thanks, yes I'm really happy with this Suhr that is beautiful and sounds good.
But I need more gain and that's why I have to choose new pickups.

Wow, beautiful guitar!  :o

I also can't speak from personal experience re Sinners vs Trilogies, but the Sinners are pretty high output rock/metal pickups - I wonder if Trilogies or even Slowhands might be better suited for your Toto sounds?

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Thank you  :)

I wonder if the sinners are not too heavy for the TOTO sound.
I need gain but not too much.
And I wonder if the Trilogies are not to bright for my bright guitar ??

That's a true beauty.
I don't think the Trilogies are too bright for your guitar, but the right height is important to get the best sounds out of BKP's. I would ask the BKP-team for a recommendation.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Thanks
I asked them, but I want to know all the advices and informations or reviews before ordering them.

Beautiful Suhr!

It's a tough call, as you have a chambered guitar with lots of maple there. I would think it could use some added mids from the Trilogy set, but I would definitely contact Tim for such a special call.

Tim told me that the Trilogy would fit well on my Suhr.

I wanted to be sure of my choice.

Great! I guess he know best and IMO it makes sense (though the only singles I have are the Apaches). I would add the Zinc base plate to the bridge pickup for some added oomph! Love that option on the Apaches, gives a bit of more kerrang...

Yes I know Tim is right but it's good to have reviews fom players.

Can you tell me what brings the Zinc base plate (more gain, more ...., les... ) ?

Thanks.

Mine is a maple neck-thru and Trilogies work just fine in it. They have plenty push without being OTT so I find them extremely versatile.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

"Zinc plated steel baseplates for Strat coils add more bottom end definition, clarity and power to the coil. They work on the same principle as a Tele bridge baseplate with tapped mounting holes so height adjustment screws thread directly into the baseplate ensuring it will never fall off. The baseplates are waxpotted with the coil to provent microphonic feedback. Whilst it is most common to fit one to the bridge coil only, the zinc plated steel baseplates work well on middle and neck coils too."

Yes thanks but I read it in the FAQ.

I need to know what means "bottom end definition" for exemple...
