My new '88 Charvel Model 1
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:41:50 PM »
Hey All,

I've been trying to find a guitar to toss the warpig in since upgrading my SG to a set of MQ's.  I've always wanted one of these but could never find one in decent shape.  This beauty comes in the mail tomorrow.  Cant wait!!!   :guitar4:

I dig it.
I've debated looking for a single pickup jackson/charvel for a while after watch some old new york hardcore vids. I think they are cool.

I'm gassing badly for one of these. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'd love to get one and get a Van Halen 1 paint job on it. I've always loved that guitar.

The Pro Mods are so good that I even considered selling my PRS to buy one. The only reason I didn't is because I love my PRS too much to sell it.

You are going to love that guitar with a Warpig in it!

I just recently bought a USA made San Dimas 2010-11 (last USA run) Charvel w/only a bridge pickup and floyd trem.  I put a ceramic warpig, 500k volume put w/push pull, and a brass big block for the trem...it sounds phenominal!

I love the quality workmanship from charvel, especially their 1 piece maple necks.

Awesome, dude!  Have fun   8)

Is that the wild card 3? i wanted one but couldn't find one for sale...

I got the guitar yesterday and cant believe the condition of her after 23 yrs....the action is as low as any guitar i've ever played...no buzzing whatsoever..this guitar wants to be played...sweet as sweet can be...100% original parts

i emailed the seller expressing my gratitude...it seems he had several guitars he wanted to sell and had his girl list them up.  this one was his personal everyday player and she listed it by mistake.  When i called him to purchase i did find it odd how confused he sounded...and how after our conversation he called back saying he had other model 1's that he could let go for cheaper... lucky for me this was the only red one, so i declined the others..
i guess he just needed the money and decided to let her go in the moment.  his loss..my gain.... unfortunately..

cant wait to pig her out!!!!

How do you find the MQ bridge in your SG? I love my MQ neck - has loads of character even compared to the Pig 90 bridge.

Nice Charvel, I had a 1C and it was effortless to play :)

Yea, my hopes with the charvel is that since basswood is such a neutral sounding wood that the pig will blast away and give it its character..

As for the SG, I must say that MQ's and SG's are like peanut butter and jelly.  They just were meant for each other.  I know Tim says go low or high output for SG's, but I think low is the way to go...Like you said, the low output MQ's give you more character than the higher output warpig or pig90.  The pig to me was somewhat "sterile" and lack luster in the SG unless you had your amp blowing balls to the wall.  Then it was awesome

As mentioned before, my hopes is that the pig will sound as it should in the charvel even when not set to 11.
