sheraton II pickup help..
« on: January 14, 2006, 01:37:32 PM »
hello all...this is my first time posting..anyway..

i have had the sheraton II now for a few months and have the money for some bare knuckles (played a friends strat with a set and was completly blown away) so now i cant decide..this guitar is used for mainly blues/jazz with a bit of classic rock thrown in..

i want the neck to be a smooth rythem pickup..used for the mellow side of my playing..

while i need the bridge to be a little bit hotter for some heavier stuff..solo's ect..(ive been reccomended the missisipi queen P90)

so any suggestions..any advice would be great..thanks..

^welcome fronk (another ug-er!)- i think i asked you this on UG, but just for the other guys- do you want both bridge and neck to be p90-tones (in which case it's MQ all the way, since that's the only 'bucker sized p90 BK do), or do you want one p90 and one 'bucker, or two 'buckers, etc.?

haha well what a suprise seeing you here... :D

well im not sure really..im fairly certain about the missisipi queen in the bridge..but im not sure if i want both of them to be p90's..im thinkin i could get a bit more versatility if i have one p90 and one humbucker..what do you think..

arghhh theres to much choice...

i know one thing though..gold aged engraved pickup covers!

you might get discrepancy in outputs if you get MQ at the bridge, and a bucker at the neck- but i'm not sure- i'd wait for some of the other regulars to chime in.

You could always go other way round, too- bucker at bridge, and MQ at neck.

I have a Mule bridge and Mississippi Queen neck in my chambered guitar - its a greath combo, the bucker and the MQ don't really have any compatibility problems - although if I was to buy again I would go for 2 Mississippi Queens as they are a absolute revelation tone wise.

MQ bridge and Bucker neck - hmm!  If it was a stormy monday it might work but I would think the other way round is probably safer.

I have a set of MQ's in a hollow body. AV bridge, AIV neck. This set will do all the styles you mentioned. + great rockabilly tones. :D

hmm...

i think ill go for 2 mississippi queens..

so being a relative newcomer to the more technical side of pickups what about the magnets..remember i want one to be a little hot and one to be for rythem..

Mississippi Queens come in the same variations as the P90 - i.e. P90 =  classic sound, P91 = Alnico 5 hot, P92 = modern hotter tone.

I think Alnico 5 P91 bridge and Alnico 4 P90 neck would be a killer combo.

another UG'er!

well thats what i was thinking..then i swung towards the two p90's..now im back on one p90 and one humbucker..

i have to say i really really like the stormy monday sound clips ive heard..sounds like a great smooth pickup..hmm

RIGHT..i have decided.. mississippi queen in the bridge and a stormy monday in the neck..thats my final decision ..

thanks for the help everyone..much appreciated  :D

what magnets are you going to go with for each?

Al II or IV for SM?

Al IV or V for MQ?

Alnico IV on both would be awesome

If you want the MQ to be a bit brighter A5 maybe the way to go!
