Need a new neck pickup...
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:41:09 AM »
Right now i currently have a Mule in the neck in my Les Paul.

It's pretty good, but it seems to be missing come chime on the clean channel. I have to play it split because it sounds honky while playing clean. Also, its seems really hot...its not that close to the strings either.

Basically, I need a super versatile neck pickup that does Opeth-like cleans and smooth leads.

really?
the only neck humbucker I ever played that MAYBE was slightly lower output was a Tim Shaw PAF reissue on an 80's les paul

what's the amp and pedals?

Im going into a Mesa Roadster, no pedals in the front while playing clean. Mabye i used "hot" badly, but there isnt much picking dynamics...I'll play with my guitar again and try to come back with some better adjectives  im going off of memory at the moment

Have you tried toying around with height more? Maybe it needs to go closer to the strings, even though you fear the "hotness" (pardon my giggle ;O) of the Mule. Cause I too have little problem understanding what you´re saying....you don´t have regular mule issues....

Indeed, fiddle with the height. I understood Mules are transparant and dynamic, so I'm wondering why it doesn't work.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
