Blue Note 90 ?
« on: June 22, 2011, 12:48:57 PM »
Hi,

I'm looking for opinions on the Blue Note 90 pickups, especially the bridge. Has anyone tried it in a strat styled guitar in the bridge ? Any demo (apart from the one on the BKP site) would be great too.

Cheers !!!

Hi! I didn't see any posts about the Blue Notes. Maybe I missed some. But, you'd better ask forummember Nolly. He did the clips for the BKP-website and knows the pu's well.

Honestly I didn't get to spend all that much time with them since the turnover was getting very rapid at that point during the end of the clip sessions (as I recall it was just a few Tele and P90 sets to go, so we were leapfrogging - I'd be recording a Tele clip while Tim hooked up a P90 set into the LP Jr we used, then we'd swap guitars are repeat the process over), and it's been a while since then so the clips are probably a better representation than my memory at this point!
That said, I recall them being absolutely classic sounding P90s, with a smooth and open voicing no doubt in part due to the AII magnet. As for suitability in a strat style guitar, to be honest I wouldn't want to say having had no experience of that setup. Best person to ask is Tim via email or if possible by phone for the best recommendation.

The have the same output and magnet as the old BKP90 (before the range was revamped)?  So if they are in that ballpark I can say (from the pair in my LP Special) they are the classic P90s - fat, warm with the ability to growl.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set
