Time for a change
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:11:30 AM »
Hail, my fellow tone junkies!

I'm thinking of swaping out my Painkillers in a superstrat that I own.  It's actually a soloist style body and neck from Warmoth.
Specs:
- Mahogany body, with a thin Koa top
- Maple Neck; Rosewood fretboard

I loved my painkillers in that guitar, but I think it's time to change.  I was thinking an Aftermath or Ceramic Nailbomb; but do you guys think that either one of those pickups would sound dark in that guitar?  I like to play with a lot of mid-range, and I absolutely need and edgy tone.  Cut, might be a better qualifier.

The painkillers aren't really doing anything for me anymore.  I have experience with a c-pig, c-bomb, sinners, and obviously the painkillers; but I feel that I'm stuck here and would like some advice.

Thanks, in advance!

Now that I think about it, would anyone disagree with a Ceramic Nailbomb in the bridge of the guitar, and keeping the Painkiller neck??

I have no experience with the CBomb, but I can tell you the ABomb is nothing but "dark" in my (rather dark) SG.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

What about a Rebel Yell? This one has midrange, but with a lot of bite in the upper spectrum.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

+1 for the Rebel Yell or maybe a Diver if you like it a tad smoother...
Just switched from a Painkiller to a Diver in my Caparison Dellinger and have a Rebel Yell in my LTD Viper.

Okay, so nevermind about this post.

I had shielding paint in the pup cavities that I sanded off, and my tone has gotten a lot better!  The painkillers have the exact sound that I was looking for.

Thanks for the help everyone!
