Bridge Humbucker on a Strat
« on: June 27, 2011, 09:29:30 AM »
Hi! I think some of you guys have more experience in BKP than me, so I write this post to ask you a question:
I own a Strat type of guitar (made by a luthier), with alder body, maple bridge but also a Trilogy suite pickup kit.
Recently, I took the decision to change my Bridge pickup for a heavier one and my maple neck for a musicman john petrucci neck (or a similar kind of slim neck). But which pickup is "the best" in my case, Miracle Man? Warpig? Holy Diver? I usually play some Dream Theater, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Liquid Tension Experiment, so I need a pickup that would be a little bit versatile (not for blues or jazzy sound of course, which I can get with the two other pickups).
Thanks for your advices, and sorry for my english! :)

Hi and welcome! Holy Diver suits the TS very well and beefs up alder bolt-on guitars.

Thanks  :)!
So the Holy Diver can be the right choice? I thought it was a good pickup for heavy and hard rock stuff, but not for prog metal or heavier stuff  :o!
By the way, what do you mean by "suits the TS" ?

When you look at the HSS-sets on the website, you'll notice that Tim at BKP pairs the HD to the Trilogy's. This is a balanced set in terms of output and frequencies. Btw, some players on the forum swapped their Nailbomb for the Diver, bec of the NB's topfrequencies and sizzle. In bolt on the Diver sounds stellar and with the right amp you can play prog. too. The HD is tight enough for that.

I have a strat-style HSS guitar with an Alnico War Pig in the bridge, and I must say: One should never underestimate how versatile the Pig really is. It does cleans marvelously.

In my case Loomer, i would only use the HB for fat distortions and other heavy sounds!
I think i'll choose the Holy Diver, it seems to be the closest choice to what i want to get.
But I don't know if i can get a prog metal sound with a HD on a Diezel Einstein 100w :D...
Thanks to you guys

I haven't tried the HD myself, but I reckon my War Pigs do heavy tones perfectly fine

A LOT of guys on here recommend the HD for just your needs though, so that is probably a very good option!

If you get a good sound using a warpig on a strat type of guitar (alder body etc...), it might be interresting to get more information on this combo.
In fact, I just wonder if it melt right with the TS and if it can catch the tone of the alder (which is very different from mahogany or maple of course) .

Bear in mind though, I am not entirely sure of the body wood on this one, since it's a late 90s Squier, the body material could be anything

It's a 1999 Chinese made Stagemaster, and an old ad I dug up said it had a "Hardwood" body.. Whether that is some sort of maple of compressed riceshell MDF board I don't know.. Other than that it also has a Floyd.

If you can take out good sounds of such a beam with the WP, these must be good pups
But I think i'll go for the Holy Diver, which seems to be more versatile in its genre

Well, I know you'll think I'm mad for saying this, but the thing actually sounded good, even with the original pickup, which was the bridge pickup of a dismembered Hello Kitty strat

I must have been absurdly lucky, since it also plays enormously well.

Holy Diver all the way. It's a real "silly grin" pickup in a superstrat style guitar - it has body in all the right places but without compromising the natural midrange snarl of an alder bodied instrument.

Nice! Because I heard after buying it that the Diezel Einstein has less mid frequencies comparing to others amp (you can't plug it on a greenback speaker for example), it could be the perfect match!!
