Death Metal PUP's For an SG

Hey, been searching but haven't found anything to satisfy my hunger for this knowledge.

I'm Looking to replace the PUP's on my Gibson SG special.

I'm looking for a nice thick sound without being muddy, Ben from sales recommended the Pigs ofc but im scared they may be too muddy as i'll be playing in the Semi-low tuning of Drop-B so I was considering the Aftermaths or Painkillers.

I plug into a peavey triple XXX if this helps!

So I submit this question to the bareknuckle gods! which pick ups doth thy recommend?

Are we talking actual Death Metal (Autopsy, Entombed, Immolation, that sort) or modern "Death Metal" which you young'ins mistakenly call it these days?

If we're talking Death Metal, I am as staunch an advocate of the War Pig as you'll ever find. I have a '97 SG-I with a C-pig in it and I love it to bits. The thing is absolutely monstrous!

Oh, and Drop B is by no means "too low" for a War Pig. I have a C-pig in my Ibanez S7420, which is tuned to G#, and it is still evisceratingly brutal and tight.

I'd love a cryptopsy-esque tone, but do you reckon it'll manage a decapitated tone, think negation or nihility?

It'll manage that tone alright, yeah, if you by "manage" mean "brutally rape and pound into submission and do an obnoxious little victory dance afterwards"  :lol:

Thanks dude, Will be ordering them soon! now the question is, What covers would look the most skidmark inducing, the guitar being a cherry with black pick guard.

Until they make covers that say "I WILL END YOU AND ALL THAT YOU LOVE" written in goat's blood, I'll say Black Battleworn. Gives off a pretty clear "I have not come here to dick around" signal.

I was thinking black, didnt think the usual ones would go.  I better go and find a goat then, would virgins blood work just as well?

I had a Miracle Man in my SG. It sounded really great, so great that I sometimes miss it now that I've gone to Black Dogs on that guitar.
The MM was very dry, very precise and punchy with great cut. In terms of "extreme" metal... I don't know half the bands mentioned in this thread, but I'd say it was closes to Dimmu Borgir's newer albums in terms of sound; it had no problems doing Metallica sounds either.

Virgin's blood works fine, yeah. It's kind of hard to come by goat-blood in urban areas, but fret not. If you live in an urban area, virgin blood is there in abundance! Just head down your local video game retailer and get to it. Either that, or head to a Games Workshop store or similar neckbeard hives for the really concentrated stuff.

Not specially into metal (death or else) myself, but that's about the most hilarious description of a pickup *tone* I've ever seen :mrgreen:
