Height of HDs and Tone
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:42:32 PM »
Could anyone give me guidance on what the height adjustments made to the HD especially in the bridge will do as far as tone goes for the bass and treble sides.  I am asking this since I was told that the HD is one of the more tone sensitive BKPs to height adjustment.

It really is sensitive. I have mine set relatively low because I use a lot of picking dynamics. I have mine about 5mm on both sides, but i'm always experimenting with different heights. 5mm works best with what I'm playing at the moment which is Prog Metal in C# standard

..and I have mine set relatively close. So, you have to figure this out by yourself :)

My advice: set it really close at first, then start lowering it and listening. Go through to a low height, and then take it really close to strings again. Now you have a rough image on what it sounds at different heights, and perhaps know roughly where it would be best. Just approach that height and finetune. Your ears are the judge; if it sounds good, it is good.
