muddy mushy tone that sounds like ass and farts
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:17:05 AM »
i know that this is ussaly considered a bad thing but im actualy TRYING to get this kind of sound. i'm going for the ugliest, nastiest tone imaginable. muddy, mushy, farting, buzzing, harsh - these are the key adjectives. so could anyone please reccomend any particular kind of guitars, pickups, amps, pedals, settings etc. that can help me acheive this?

Try and dig up a Danelectro Black Coffee distortion pedal. Without a doubt the worst distortion box in existence.

get an old Fostex cassette four track and use it as a distortion pedal by maxing out the input channel then sending the output to your amp :)  got me one of the most buzzy, chainsaw like, undynamic distortions i've ever heard.  at the time my favourite album was "The Downward Spiral" by Nine Inch Nails, so i was quite happy with it.

failing that, any two or three cr@ppy overdrive/distortion pedals daisy chained and with the tones set to anything but compliment each other should do the trick
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

You could try overdriving the input stage of a computer audio interface or any digital device. Digital clipping is not exactly muddy or mushy but is one of the harshest and nastiest sounds around.

Dimarzio X2N, neck position, pickguard-mounted in a cheap particle-board guitar, plugged into and old (late 70s, early 80s) tranny radio then into a early 80s ghetto box. Special bonus points if you add a dying cr@ppy 70s no-name wha-fuzz between the "guitar" and "amp"

(yeah, been here, done that...  ugliest tone ever !)
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

WMD Geiger Counter or something similar like a Death By Audio Robot.

3:42 sounds like farts for sure.

Is this for Tweenwave?

Any boutique distortion pedal will give you that sound :S For some reason it seems that the more money they cost, the uglier they sound :S
Your music will never be as hard as this!

A seymour duncan invader would do what you need with a solid state amp such as the laney hardcore max with a fuzz in front of it.

I dont think any of the BKPs will get you there as they're all very clear pickups.

The best idea if you want to go the BKP route would be to get something incredibly low output and hit it with fuzz/distortion etc
